The Helicopter Split in Half?

Maxwell opened another batch of daily treasure chests, and aside from gaining a significant boost in attributes, he also received enhancements to his skin resistance, bone strength, and mental defenses—substantially increasing his overall power!

"This method of searching isn't working! If I don't find it today, I'll stop looking. After all, finding zombies is more important!" Maxwell thought to himself.

Diego base city wasn't very large and was quite remote, not having been a bustling metropolis even 300 years ago. Due to the small population, and zombies typically arising from humans, there weren't many zombies here.

Maxwell decided to head east, where there were typically more zombie sightings.

"A helicopter? That's Supreme Hall's helicopter!"

At that moment, through the eyes of one of the zombies Maxwell controlled, a helicopter suddenly appeared.

The helicopter roared as it flew towards the depths of a large mountain, then disappeared behind a cloud of mist.

Maxwell kept the zombie watching for a while longer, but the helicopter did not return.

"Could it be, they've found traces of the Red Fortress?" Maxwell thought, no longer willing to wait around. He quickly sent the Level 8 zombie he had been holding in reserve into the mountain.

If the Level 8 zombie sprinted at full speed, it could travel three times faster than the world's 100-meter sprint champion from 300 years ago, and it could maintain this pace for a long time.

With this speed, the Level 8 zombie quickly reached the base of the mountain and then dashed into the dense forest, following the direction where the helicopter had vanished.

"There are so many zombies in these mountains!"

As the Level 8 zombie entered the mountain, Maxwell, using its eyes, discovered that the mountain was indeed teeming with zombies, including many high-level ones. As it ran, he even spotted mutant zombies!

This discovery invigorated Maxwell; it seemed that the Red Fortress might indeed be hidden within this mountain!

Thinking this, Maxwell's eyes lit up with excitement.

Moreover, for Maxwell, even if the Red Fortress wasn't in this mountain, it was still a win for him! After all, there were many zombies within this mountain. Although they weren't as numerous as the previous zombie horde, they were still much better than the small batch of over a thousand zombies from last night.

Maxwell's Level 8 zombie continued to run up the mountain, and with its rapid speed, it took about an hour to reach the altitude where the helicopter had disappeared.

"Holy smokes! This mountain actually hides another mountain within it!"

A mountain within a mountain!

Maxwell quickly realized that although it looked like one large mountain from the outside, only when you got close did it become apparent that there was another mountain hidden halfway up the main mountain. Due to visual obstruction, this inner mountain was not visible from the base.

Moreover, it was also hard to see from above because the area was always shrouded in mist, severely reducing visibility.

After discovering the mountain hidden within the larger mountain, Maxwell directed the Level 8 zombie to continue further inside.

The sight that met his eyes was magnificent.

Towering trees reached up to the sky, some hundreds of meters tall, with circumferences so wide they would take dozens of people to encircle.

Maxwell was astounded.

The trees at the base of the mountain were lush too, but they were not nearly as tall.

These trees... were unusually gigantic!

Maxwell felt that there was definitely something off about this place, and the Red Fortress might well be inside.

Moreover, what the young man had said about the Red Fortress disappearing could mean that it hadn't vanished into thin air, but was hidden by these towering trees and perpetually enveloped in mist, making it normally invisible unless searched for carefully.

Under Maxwell's command, the Level 8 zombie continued climbing through the inner mountain, and soon, it spotted a hint of red!

Indeed, as it moved further inward, the smear of red revealed its true nature.

It was a tall red wall!

The wall was constructed of red bricks and was covered with various vegetation, with only parts of the wall exposed, so Maxwell couldn't tell how high it actually was.

"A red brick wall! Could it be the outer wall of the Red Fortress!?"

Maxwell felt this was plausible and a flicker of excitement grew within him.

At Maxwell's instruction, the Level 8 zombie climbed up alongside a large tree, soon reaching the canopy.

The Level 8 zombie perched above, looking down, but couldn't make out anything distinct.

Just then, the sound of thundering engines filled the sky.

Using the eyes of the Level 8 zombie, Maxwell saw a helicopter flying through the sky.

It was people from Supreme Hall!

However, their view from high above, obscured by the sun-blocking plants, likely didn't give them a clear view of anything.

But suddenly, the trees in front of them seemed to pull together, their branches and leaves converging and their trunks bending, revealing the hidden Red Fortress behind them in an instant.

The Red Fortress!

"Look, what is that! A red fortress! It's the Red Fortress!"

Excited shouts came from the helicopter.

The helicopter then slowly descended, hovering low in the air, just a few meters from the tree canopy where the Level 8 zombie was positioned.

At that moment, a thick vine suddenly shot out from below the canopy, like a nimble tentacle, striking the helicopter with incredible speed.

This sudden strike caught the helicopter's passengers off guard, as their attention had been drawn to the Red Fortress ahead, naturally leaving them unaware of the tree canopy beside them.

Thus, the helicopter was hit squarely and, under the lash of the vine, was split into two halves.

"Ah—"

A piercing scream emanated from the helicopter.

"Damn! These plants are terrifying!"

Maxwell watched this scene, his pupils shrinking.

The vegetation here was eerie and needed to be handled with caution!

The people on the helicopter had not seen the Red Fortress; it seemed as if the vegetation acted consciously, deliberately revealing the fortress behind it to attract their attention, leading them to be distracted and thus struck by the vine.

Now, the trees stood upright again, their canopies returning to their original state, once more concealing the Red Fortress thoroughly.

Maxwell thought for a moment and then instructed his Level 8 zombie to climb from tree to tree, heading towards the Red Fortress.

Before long, the Level 8 zombie had climbed across many treetops and scaled the red high wall, using the dense vegetation covering it to enter inside the fortress.

As soon as the Level 8 zombie entered, the scene it encountered made Maxwell jump in shock.

"Holy shit!"

So many zombies!
