Chapter 8: The Monster Tamer's Play

The stench of death clung to the corridors of the university, growing more intense with each passing moment. The air was thick with the groans of the undead, and the distant shuffling of their feet sent a chill through the group as they navigated the maze of once-familiar hallways. The campus, once a place of learning and safety, had transformed into a nightmarish labyrinth where the only certainty was the lurking presence of danger.

Layla led the group with a cold, unyielding determination, her every step radiating an aura of merciless strength. She was a force of nature, a whirlwind of steel and precision, and the others couldn't help but follow her lead, though their expressions revealed a mixture of fear and admiration. Aeon walked beside her, his mind a storm of questions and theories, but he kept his thoughts to himself, knowing that any sign of doubt could be lethal.

As they turned a corner, the group stumbled upon a scene that made their blood run cold. A large group of zombies, perhaps a dozen or more, were clawing at a barricaded door, their rotting hands tearing at the wood in a frenzy. Behind the door, muffled cries for help could be heard—students who had sought refuge, were now trapped and moments away from being overrun by zombies.

Panic swept through the group, and a few members began to back away, their faces pale with terror.

"We can't fight them all!" Amelia gasped, her voice trembling as she clutched her makeshift weapon.

"Shut up and stay quiet, or we'll all die," Layla snapped, her voice cold and devoid of sympathy. Her eyes narrowed as she assessed the situation, her mind calculating the odds.

Ali, previously quiet and blending into the background, suddenly stepped forward, his eyes wide with a mix of fear and desperation. "We have to help them! We can't just leave them to die!"

Layla's gaze flicked to Ali, and in a flash, she was in front of him, her katana pointed at his throat. "You think you can save them? You'll get us all killed. Step out of line again, and I'll kill you myself."

Ali froze, his eyes wide with shock. He hadn't expected such a ruthless response, and neither had the rest of the group. They stared at Layla, a mixture of horror and awe on their faces.

Nadia, unable to hold back her disgust, spat on the ground. "You're a monster," she whispered, her voice quivering with rage.

Layla didn't flinch. Her cold eyes locked onto Nadia. "If being a monster is what it takes to survive, then so be it. I won't hesitate to kill anyone who endangers my plans. If that's too much for you, feel free to join the zombies outside."

The group fell silent, the weight of Layla's words pressing down on them like a physical force. They realized then that there was no room for weakness, no space for mercy. This was survival, and in this new world, only the strong would live.

Layla continued as she approached Nadia "Don't be mistaken you're all nothing but a burden. You're free to follow me, but I never considered any of you as party members. My path is my own, and I walk it alone"

Aeon watched Layla with a mix of fascination and wariness as she looked like a fierce heroine. He knew she was ruthless, but seeing it in action was something else entirely. She was a mystery wrapped in steel, and he needed to understand her if he was going to survive together.

Aeon stepped forward to calm everyone. "Although Layla is cold, like an untamed beast," he began. At the mention of "untamed beast," Layla's eyes narrowed, and a dangerous, killing intent radiated from her. Her gaze was so intense that it made me stutter as I continued, trying to remain calm.

"Sh-she is right. W-we followed her of our own accord because of our uncertainty and inability to protect ourselves."

Layla's eyes bore into mine, and I could feel the weight of her unspoken threat. The room fell silent, everyone too afraid to speak. Aeon, sensing the tension, tried to defuse the situation.

"Good I managed to change the topic because if continued Layla might harm the group" Aeon thought to himself.

"Layla, we need to rescue the survivors from the zombies, they can be useful," he said, his voice steady.

Layla's expression remained cold and indifferent. "I don't care about saving lives," she replied bluntly. "It's not my problem."

Aeon took a deep breath. "If you won't go, then I'll go alone," he declared, determination in his eyes.

Layla's gaze narrowed slightly, though the dangerous edge remained. "Fine," she said, her voice cold but controlled. "But don't expect me to save you if things go wrong."

"I understand," Aeon replied, his resolve unwavering. "I'll do what needs to be done."

With that, Aeon turned and was about to head towards the survivors, but then Layl interrupted

"That being said, I don't care about anyone going for the rescue except YOU AEON"

Layla said with murderous killing intent that made everyone step back as she continued

"Did you think you could trick me? trying to change the topic, well I'll give you an appload for that but what did you CALL ME YOU ...."

She drew her sword at Aeon's face "Did you call me an untamed beast? Then I'll show what a real" But before she finished her sentence Aeon ran quickly away in the direction of the horde of zombies.

"Y-you-you bastard *** how dare to run? the cold calm Layla exploded her anger and went swiftly chasing after Aeon with her dual sword dangerously and will heavy murderous killing intent that threatened everything in the way.

Aeon couldn't help but laugh as he ran and ran as fast as he could in his entire life. even as zombies in front of him, he knew if he stopped he would be shredded to pieces by Layla who was madly chasing and swinging her swords. Aeon thought he was going to die "crazy, how can she be that fast what a monster indeed" Aeon muttered to himself while running and breathing heavily.

but then he heard Layla's voice directly from behind him "You called me a monster again, you bastard die.." Layla dangerously swang her swords but I tug down just a half second early but still cut aliitle of my head hair.

"if you don't like being called a monster then you should be a barber instead" Aeon said that as he continued to run after avoiding a fatal attack.

Layla shouted threateningly at Aeon as she chased him "you little.... if I catch you I will cut you into pieces" just as Layla was going to swing her sword at Aeon because she was about to reach Aeon again due to her incredibly fast running speed.

Aeon quickly passed a few zombies in which after a few second, the zombie died three at once

"what an incredible skill" Aeon remarked at Layla's combat techniques of her swift slashes

anyway the zombies began to run toward us because of Layla's shouting made the zombies aware of us so the horde of zombie that was about 200 zombies attacked us. Layla wanted to attack Aeon but was suppressed because of the huge number of zombies attacking her.

Aeon was attacked by a few zombies who was nearby but managed to kill about twinty zombies quickly and then slipped in between the horde of zombies into the barricade of the survivors and then asked them quickly

"we came hear to save you but open the door quickly for me to enter" Aeon said with heavy breathing of exhaustion on him.

"you look like you need to be saved instead, GO AWAY" a few people answered back behind the closed barricade.

"n-no no we really came to save you, look at my fiance killing zombies," Aeon said as if pleading because he was killing a few zombies as they came close.

"...." the people behind the closed barricade were silent which meant they were thinking about it so let's give the final push.

"if I die here, my fierce fiance will be very angry and will kill all of you as revenge for not letting me in, look at her fighting skills and cold merciless demeanour"

".....O-oh-okay we will let you in, come in quickly" the people behind the closed barricade said.

perhaps after witnessing the mad and dangerous Layla fighting a horde of zombies all by herself they became very afraid and started to treat me with utmost respect.

"hmm-Oh Mr handsome we're very sorry for the delay we were just about to send people to help you from the very beginning but we were looking for our weapons." a female staff member said apologetically but she was clearly lying because everyone has makeshift weapons although to strong as gins and swords they were still helpful. either way they didn't have the intention of helping from the very beginning. but I could this as a chance "ohh really, no worries then I thought you guys left me to die but instead you were looking and preparing your weapons to fight the zombies outside, so you're ready now, right?" I asked with my acting smile.

"O-ooh y-yea of course we're ready now to fight". the female staff member and the others around her looked hesitant and seemed they were about to refuse but I quickly said

"good my strong fiance will be grateful for your assistance because if you don't she might kill someone here out of her anger," Aeon said with a calm expression but was laughing inside himself "Haha, I am the one she's going to kill though"

"Y-yea, everyone let us go support our saviour who is fighting for us there alone, LET'S GO"
