Flaws

"I don't know my ability."

...

Back in the white room, Dan saw the shadow everyone talked about, but coming back here, he still couldn't tell what his ability was or how it activated, unlike everyone else.

"What? Didn't you have an intuition ability or a prediction?" Mrs Taiyo asked in disbelief. There was no way everything he had said, would have been luck or a fluke.

"Wasn't it future sight?" Billie asked, still not understanding how everyone else got an ability except for him.

"That's what I also think, but without the knowledge of it's activation, I can't tell if it's true or not."

Hearing that, Everyone was a little surprised, but considering the fact that Dan had already displayed some kind of an ability, they didn't care enough.

What ability does he have, that he couldn't even learn it's activation like everyone else? Mrs Taiyo pondered, before looking at the kids.

"Let's go, and once again, if we encounter that cowboy or something that looks dangerous, turn the other way and run."

Everyone nodded, following which they all walked towards the forest.

Rasping, chirps and buzzes from different birds and insects sorrounded the forest.

Rustles of dried leaves being stepped on filled the air, as the group matched towards the unknown.

"I guess we won't have to worry about getting firewood and slaughtering animals, with you here." Margret who had been walking alone behind Alpha's group said.

"Y.."

"What do want." Before Alpha could talk he was interrupted by Ciru, who seemed annoyed by the mere presence of Margret.

"Wasn't talking to you princess."

"Why don't you go back to your friends, ohh wait you don't have any." With a mocking tone, Ciru said.

Margret went silent for a minute. What Ciru said was true, she didn't have any friends, at least the ones who would know almost everything about her. She could talk to people, but due to her personality, it was a bit hard to advance beyond just classmates.

She stared at Ciru for a moment, before proceeding to walk past them.

"Whatever."

"Wait."

Before she could catch up to rest of the group Alpha called out to her.

He didn't know why Ciru who always got along with almost everyone, couldn't get along with her. Being curious and cautious was her whole personality, she couldn't help it.

"What?" Glaring at Alpha, she asked.

"I thought you wanted to speak to me and not her, so why are you leaving?"

Seeing this Ciru pouted, before catching up with Dan and Tony who didn't seem in the mood for drama.

Alpha didn't pay much attention to her as he continued.

"By the way I like your power" he said, walking to catch up to her.

"Yeah but I think it gives me a headache every time I do."

"It seems like I'm not the only one then."

"You get one too, I even overheard Liam say he feels needles piercing the tip of his fingers every time he uses his ability."

Hearing that Alpha's face darkened, every time he created anything, he would feel something crawling in his skin, and now it looked like he wasn't the only one.

At this moment he couldn't help but remember what Dan had said 'I don't think these abilities are gonna help us survive' maybe this was what he meant or whatever was it that spoke that day.

"Are you still listening?"

"Huh! Sorry about that, what were you saying?" He was pulled out of the daze, by Margret who had her face closer to his.

Having momentarily forgotten about her being there.

"Is it your head that aches? When you activate your ability that is"

"No it's actually my hand." Holding his right wrist, he answered.

"Do you maybe think this has anything to do with our powers?"

"I'm sure it does, there's no way everything could be against us in this forest and we somehow get to have flawless abilities."

"Shouldn't we tell the teacher and everyone else?" Margret asked, shocked by Alpha's answer.

"I think she already knows, she just hasn't spoken about it."

"You know how people are, most of our classmates think that they're the only ones who have that problem, if it's revealed not to be the case, the fear they had before would come back, making it almost impossible to make it out of this forest."

"What if the damage becomes permanent?"

"It won't."

"Why would you think that?"

"Look at everyone, none of them are using their abilities, meaning if theirs a recurring effect, it would take long, and maybe by that time we'll already be out of this forest. And that's also the reason teach hasn't mentioned it."

Margret was shocked by Alpha's intellectual. At first glance you would probably think of him as dumb, even his grades at school were low, but when it come to reasoning, reading and understanding people and situations, he could even put some psychologist with degrees to shame.

Without sticking on the topic any longer, Margret looked at Alpha with an amused smile before asking.

"What do you think brought us here?"

There it is, her curiosity was the reason Alpha felt like they could be friends, because he too liked digging for answers.

"I can't guess of anything, but I sure can't wait to find out."
