While Hedin unleashed lightning upon the evilus, another member of the Freya familia was hard at work.
Weaving through the shadows, a nimble figure darted across the battlefield, reaping the lives of the evilus soldiers before they even knew he was there.
This was Hogni Ragnar, a dark elf and executive of the Freya familia.
Hogni was a level 5 adventurer, not inferior to Hedin in combat prowess.
No evilus could escape the fatal sweep of his jet-black sword.
Orario had become nothing more than a battleground infested with wild beasts intoxicated with blood.
To Hogni, these beasts were neither good nor evil but merely mindless creatures; although he was usually timid and reactive in nature, today he felt no guilt in cutting them down.
Determined not to gaze upon the corpses of innocent civilians lining the streets, Hogni pressed onward.
After securing the area, he took a brief moment to rest, his thoughts drifting to his goddess.
"If the northern part of the city is in such disarray, what about the south? Where are Ottar and Allen? Tsk—I don't really care about them, but is Freya-sama alright? Does she need me by her side right now? Oh, I just can't stop worrying," these thoughts relentlessly plagued his mind.
Wrapped in the cloak of darkness that shielded him from judgmental gazes, Hogni lifted his eyes to the sky and voiced his thoughts aloud.
However, his musings were abruptly interrupted by a pair of high-pitched voices—one he recognized, and the other he dreaded hearing.
"It's okay, Hogni, surrender your life to us, and you won't have to be burdened by such worrisome thoughts any longer," the voices chimed in unison, each completing the other's sentence.
"Ugh, why now?" Hogni muttered, tugging his collar up to obscure most of his face.
He did not want anyone to see the face that his beloved goddess deemed beautiful.
"Why don't we transform his lifeless husk into a pretty little doll, Dina? We could even place him next to my darling Hedin," one of the voices suggested.
"Oh, that's a marvellous idea, Vena. I am sure Hogni would adore it as well. I love him so much that I just want to strangle him," the other remarked.
"Careful, sister—you've accidentally confessed your true feelings," Vena warned.
"Oh, did I? Whoopsie! Ahahaha!" Dina replied, her expression comically goofy.
This disconcerting conversation came from the Dis sisters; though their voices were cute and charming, their hearts were as dark as coal.
Both wore scanty robes reminiscent of exotic dancers—their faces, clothing, and nearly every aspect of their appearance were mirror opposites.
One tied her hair in a single side bun while the other sported two; one had fair, pure, almost newborn-like skin, whereas the other was dark and alluring, like a forbidden fruit.
Although they appeared childlike, no one who knew these two monsters would ever call them mere children.
The elder was Dina Dis, a white elf with golden hair, while the younger was Vena Dis, a dark elf with silver hair.
Each bore a teardrop-shaped tattoo beneath one eye, their hands clasped as they giggled sweetly and innocently.
Yet their level of depravity was so nauseating that Hogni refused to acknowledge them as fellow members of his race.
"So you managed to worm your way here, Dis sisters," Hogni muttered in annoyance.
"Of course—we wouldn't turn down an invitation to such a magnificent party," Dina replied with a gleeful smile.
"Dina, we have a job to do; our god is waiting," Vena interjected.
There were two groups deemed extreme even by evilus standards.
One was the Alecto familia, led by Dina and Vena as captain and vice-captain, respectively.
In terms of the number of innocent lives taken, the two girls ranked just behind Valletta—a fact that sickened Hogni to his core.
Realizing that he couldn't handle them alone, Hogni made a desperate run for it.
..............
Swoosh!
The rapid sound of hurried footsteps reverberated along the northern road.
"Please stop following me—go bother Hedin instead. Just leave me alone," Hogni pleaded as he fled.
"We can't," Dina yelled.
"That's right, we can't," Vena echoed.
"How could we ever let you go? We love you both to death, more than anything in the world," the sisters chorused.
"Guhhh," Hogni grunted in frustration as he struggled to shake them off.
As much as he didn't want to admit it, the two sisters had become the arch-nemeses of him and Hedin.
They had become obsessed with them ever since they clashed by chance—a battle that had ended in a painful draw.
Hedin loathed the girls for the dishonor their actions brought to the elven race, while Hogni despised them for their bizarre words and behavior.
He had long lost count of the number of times they had failed to kill the Dis sisters.
Despite their strange personalities, both Dina and Vena were level 5 and among the strongest fighters the evilus possessed, making it no easy task to get rid of them.
Although they appeared as if they were 15-year-old girls, in truth they were both older than Hedin and Hogni, who were around 70 years of age.
While Hogni was trying his best to shake off the Dis sisters, he soon found himself in a rather troublesome area.
He reached a crossroads at the south end of District 7, where he encountered yet another bothersome group.
It consisted of members of the Apate familia—the strongest among the evilus—with the Alecto familia following close behind.
Around the crossroads, various beast kin, brimming with drugs and cursed items, roamed in apparent madness.
"Ugh, how do I get out of this?" Hogni wondered aloud.
............
Meanwhile, off to the northwest, another battle was brewing.
Streaks of lightning illuminated the orange sky, and thunderous booms echoed throughout the night—not the result of evilus suicide bombers, but rather the manifestation of Hedin's magic, clearly visible in the northwestern skies.
Several onlookers watched from afar.
Among them was an amazoness who hoisted a great sword she had just used to cleave an evilus soldier in two.
"Kyaaaa, things are really heating up over there. Say what you will, but Orario never gets boring!" she exclaimed.
She possessed smooth, dark skin and an enviable figure; her long, black hair was tied back in a ponytail.
Her arms appeared soft and feminine yet were fortified with toned muscles capable of wielding a fiendish-looking great sword nearly as tall as she was.
Upon the scant fabric of her outfit, the Ishtar familia crest was branded.
Surrounding her were similarly attired amazons, all looking to her for guidance.
"What now, Aisha?" an ashen-haired amazoness inquired.
"That's obvious—we head out in search of our next battle," Aisha replied.
"B-but Ishtar wants us to return and protect our home," another countered.
"Yeah, so what? We've only just joined; she can't expect to order us around," Aisha retorted. Aisha and her group were considered somewhat low-class fighters even within their own familia. Among the Berabera, they were regarded as the weakest.
There were plenty of strong members, such as the Toad Empress Phryne, to defend their home, so Aisha believed it was acceptable for them to have fun outside of the pleasure quarters.
"You made sure all the wounded returned to base, right?" Aisha asked, deftly changing the subject.
"Of course, and the brothels are secure too," an amazoness replied.
"Then let's go, Samira. Let's have some fun. Even in the deserts of Kaois, I've never encountered enemies as crazy as these people," Aisha urged, pointing at the evilus.
Spurred by Aisha's energy, the other amazons chanted in unison as they followed her lead toward the enemy.
Amazons, by nature, loved the thrill of combat almost as much as they loved sex, so convincing them was hardly difficult.
