Shattered illusion

The unknown man sneaked into the room, his footsteps silent on the hospital floor. He moved with a sinister purpose, his eyes fixed on the machines monitoring Mr. Martin's vital signs.

With a swift motion, he unplugged the machines, and the room fell silent.

The only sound was the soft beep of the heart monitor, now flatlining.

Anderson, lying on the chair, stirred but didn't wake. The man's eyes flicked to her, then back to Mr. Martin.

He hesitated, his hand reaching into his pocket. But just as he was about to make his next move, he heard the sound of footsteps approaching.

He ducked into the shadows, holding his breath as the nurse entered the room. Her eyes scanned the space,

and her gaze landed on the unplugged machines. Her expression turned from concern to alarm.

"What in the world...?"

she muttered, rushing to plug the machines back in.
