In the dimly lit basement of an abandoned warehouse, the air was thick with fear. The man tied to the chair—a trembling, sweat-soaked figure—was none other than Bella's former supervisor. His muffled cries were barely audible through the gag in his mouth.
Lucas stood in front of him, his cold gaze filled with quiet fury. His suit jacket was draped over a nearby chair, sleeves rolled up as he leaned against the table. Bella really thought that if she didn't tell him about this man, he won't know. But she was wrong.
"You thought you could harass women and get away with it?" Lucas's voice was eerily calm. "You thought no one would notice?"
The man shook his head frantically, his eyes pleading.
"You made Bella uncomfortable. That alone was enough for me to deal with you," Lucas continued, his tone darkening. "But I did some digging. And what do you know? You weren't just a pathetic excuse for a boss—you were involved in something much worse."
One of Lucas's men stepped forward and threw a thick file onto the table. Photos, documents, and transaction records spilled out. Proof of the supervisor's involvement in a human trafficking ring, where women from his company had gone missing, never to be found again. Initially Lucas was going to leave him with some warnings, but learning his real truth, his anger risen up.
Lucas tilted his head. "You used your position to target women. To sell them. Don't worry. You won't be doing it anymore."
The supervisor's eyes widened in pure terror as he shook his head violently, trying to scream through the gag.
Lucas smirked coldly. "Thanks to Bella, you are getting an easy death otherwise considering your crimes, it would have been so worse, that you have to beg me to give you death." And with that, the warehouse was filled with the sound of a single gunshot.
The next morning, Bella sat on the couch, eating breakfast with Rachel, but today Rachel insisted on watching her favourite cartoon while eating. But her luck was a little bad today, an ad break appeared as soon as she turned on the T.V., giving Bella enough time to change the channel to a news one. Soft hum of the news played in the background until a certain headline caught her attention.
"Company Supervisor Found Dead in a Warehouse—Police Investigating Possible Crime Links."
Bella's breath hitched.
She turned up the volume as the reporter continued:
"The victim, identified as Jake Miller, was found dead late last night, in an old factory. Authorities have since uncovered disturbing evidence linking him to a human trafficking network. Several missing women cases have now been reopened, and further investigations are underway."
Bella's fingers tightened around her mug. "He was involved in trafficking?" she muttered in disbelief.
Rachel looked up. "What's trafficking, Mumma?" Bella quickly turned the TV off. "Nothing, sweetie. Just something bad."
Her mind reeled. She had always felt uneasy around him, but she had never imagined he was involved in something so horrifying.
She exhaled shakily. Did he deserve what happened to him? The thought unsettled her, but she pushed it aside. At that moment, her phone buzzed. It was a text from Lucas:
"Good morning, beautiful. Did you sleep well?" She smiled slightly, feeling warmth settle in her chest.
"Lucas… did you know about this?"she wondered, but then shook her head. No, there's no way he could be involved.
Little did she know, the man responsible for delivering justice was the very person she was going to marry.
The morning passed quietly as Bella focused on house chores after dropping Rachel off at school. She was still adjusting to the idea of marriage, and though it was happening soon, there were still important things to take care of. One of them was Gabrielle.
She had been avoiding the conversation, knowing Gabrielle would be full of questions. But she couldn't put it off any longer.
That afternoon, Bella finally made the call. "Hello, Bella!" Gabrielle's voice came through, warm as always.
"Hey, aunt Gabrielle. Are you free this evening.... I've got something important to tell you."
Gabrielle was silent for a moment. "Alright. Come by anytime." Bella sighed as she hung up. That was step one. Now for step two. She dialed Lucas's number.
"Hey, Bella....is everything alright?," his deep voice answered.
"I'm fine, Lucas. Actually I called you because… I need you to come with me to the orphanage today," she said.
Lucas was quiet for a beat. "The orphanage?"
"Yeah. Aunt Gabrielle needs to know about… us."
Lucas exhaled through the phone. "I see. I'll be there. We have to give her the invitation for our wedding too." Bella smiled slightly. "Thank you. I will wait for you in the evening."
