Book 3 - Chapter 34 : Chris’ ‘Stolen’ Girlfriend

= Sarah POV =

With the two women outside arguing, I turned to the doctor, who was packing up while shaking his head disapprovingly.

"I'm so sorry, doctor," I said, apologizing on their behalf.

"Please call my Dr. Kimura. And no worries. I've been treating this family since Christina was a baby. Those two never seem to see eye to eye, even though they have identical personalities. Here is my card," The doctor said, handing me a simple name card with his title and number printed. " If your temperature returns, please call me, and I will send one of my nurses or myself to check on you, depending on the time of the day. Mrs. Fairfield means well, but if she does send you any of her health tonics, I advise that you leave them for after you recover, as she tends to like to add a lot of acidic juices, which are not good for you to take with the medicine I have prescribed." Dr Kimura explained, looking at me pitifully.

"You may consider requesting a stay at the spa if this place gets too noisy, " the doctor suggested, and I nodded.

"I will consider it if I need a break. Thank you," I replied. " Thank you for your assistance," I said, and I walked the doctor to the door.

The doctor opened the door to hear the two women still bickering fiercely.

"Ms Fairfield," The doctor said calmly.

"What?" Christina and her mother said, turning in unison.

I choked back a snort.

"The patient needs her rest, and I have another appointment. I will send over the prescription later with one of the nurses; please feel free to occupy your time quietly and calmly so that the patient can rest," Dr Kimura advised, eyeing the two ladies.

Both mother and daughter straightened themselves out and eyed each other apprehensively before mentally deciding to put an end to yet another one of their augments.

"Yes, thank you for the advice, Dr Kimura; we should be more conscientious about our actions, especially when a family friend is involved," Mrs. Fairfield said, shaking Dr Kimura's hand. " Thank you for attending to her."

On the other hand, Chris made a beeline for me and pushed me back into the house, closing the door on her mother and the doctor.

"Alright, let's get you back to bed," Chris said, acting entirely non: challenge.

"Chris! Shouldn't we say goodbye to your mom?" I gasped, feeling bad that she had just shut her mom out like that.

Chris stopped misstep and clenched her fists. I withdrew a little, wondering what I had said wrong this time.

"Why? Are you going to ask her to teach you to have sex as well? You thinking of going down that road with an older, richer version of me?" Chris snapped, glaring at the tiles of the living room floor.

I started. Why the hell would she think that?

I grabbed her by the arm and yanked it back so that she would turn to look at me.

"Chris, why the hell would you say that? Your mom is gorgeous, but I'm not some gold digger. Please explain why I would want to sleep with my friend's mom when I want to sleep with my friend? I think your jealousy is way too extreme; stop projecting your insecurities on me," I snapped, angry at being accused of being some gold digger.

Chris shook off my hand and crossed her arms, and to my surprise, tears started brimming in her eyes.

"It's not you who I'm worried about; it's my mom. This is what she does. She gets girls to trust her, brings them to an apartment, and love-bombs them. The next thing you know, they call you at your family apartment and tell you they are leaving you because your mom cooks better than you. And then suddenly, they have a full scholarship to Denmark, and you never hear from them again. I'm the chef in this relationship, me!" Chris cried out, bursting into tears.

I stood there, shell-shocked. "Omg god. Chris…that's…that's horrible…I didn't…. I didn't know…" I said, reaching for her again, stroking her folded arms, and feeling so bad for getting mad a second ago.

Chris unfolded her arms and held me, her large frame almost engulfing me as she leaned down and cried into my shoulder.

"She didn't even have the courtesy to let me see her once before she left. She f***ed off. If you move to that apartment, Sarah, I won't see you again. You'll eat her food, and she'll eat you out, and it'll be all over," Chris said tearfully into the collar of my shirt.

"Wait, what?" I said and pushed Chris off me, holding her at arm's length as she tried to wipe her tears. " Eat what now?"
