We walked carefully through the debris shattered glass pieces, making our way towards the front door. We walked until we found our way out of he floor we were on; the roof of the building was destroyed, and blood was dripping from it like a slightly opened tap. The bodies of scientists and security guards flooded the lab, and the smell was breathtaking. The sight was worse than the smell; my whole stomach was upset.
"What could have happened here?" I wondered aloud.
"Trust me, we're all asking ourselves the same question Mandu," I said in a low voice. "So whatever you might be thinking, I strongly suggest you keep to yourself. Making us more scared than we already are won't do us any good''.
It all seemed upside down I was still having a little feeling of vertigo, but surprisingly, Daesang and Dave didn't seem to be feeling anything at all. They whispered endlessly, and If I was told that they planned this whole mess, half of me would believe it.
We passed through many scary places, the lab seemed quite destroyed, so electricity was down. Only the red emergency light was on, but it was unstable, making it even more eerie. The light would be on for couple of minutes and then there would be total black out for about a minute or two. When it comes back on, I would probably seeing a person's head in front of me, and his body like fifteen yards away.
The elevator wasn't working, so we had to take the stairs - a whole lot of steps leading to the first floor. Finally, we got to the first floor and our faces beamed with a little joy because we didn't know what the first floor had in store for us. But at the same time, we were almost out of the building.
Gradually and cautiously, we started heading forward towards the direction where the exit is meant to be (well... naturally). Just then, from the end of the walkway, we heard glass clattering; something was coming towards us. We started to recede, and I asked myself "Could it be the creature that caused this havoc"? Among the ways I planned to die, having my body parts being torn apart by some ferocious being wasn't one of them. The thought of it even made me feel a lot more afraid than I already did.
Running away was no use; from what we'd seen, the creature was surely faster than any regular human. Even if we all knew we were no match for the creature, we still stood ready to fight.
"Ga, Gada (lets go)", a voice said from the darkness,
"Yeoboseyo?" I replied with a shaky voice.
"Didn't your Mama teach you not to talk to strangers fam?" Dave said
"You always look for the worst times to make jokes Dave," Daesang replied him
"I'm not; why would Su Jin say 'yo-bu-say-yo' to someone we don't even know?"
"Yeoboseyo!", Daesang corrected.
From the darkness, a man came forward, wearing an all black denim jacket and black pants, he was at most, 5'11". As he came out of the shadows, my heart was pounding crazily. For the first time since I regained consciousness, Daesang and Dave agreed on something: pushing me forward.
"Mueos-eul gidaligo issnayo (what are you waiting for)?'' The man asked.
"A-a-aniyo(nothing)," I said with my hands interlocked. Anyone could tell I was dead scared,
"Gwaenchanha-euseyo (are you okay)?" He asked softly.
I wanted to let my guard down since he sounded soft and nice, but I thought to myself, I've seen it in movies, especially in K-dramas-the ones with the meekest faces are always the evil ones.
"Aniyo(no), ani(sorry), Ne(yes) Ne ajussi (yes sir)". I replied him.
I looked back at the guys and Daesang's hand was on his head, as if to say, "what the heck?" I felt like a total idiot.
"Ppaleun(quickly), ppaleun(hurry)!" He said as he wandered back into the darkness.
I was immediately thrown into a dilemma: should I follow him or not? My brain started analyzing outcomes. "Who does that? I'm seeing the most horrific sight since the day I was born, and a stranger shows up, out of the shadows, in the very color of cloth that depicts evil, and tells me to follow him."
"Following him might be dangerous; It might as well be our only way out. Anything to get out of this blood-reeking building."
I pondered the situation for quite a while and concluded. After much thought and deliberation, there were only two outcomes: we might lose our saving grace and might actually end up like these scientists and security guards for real this time - worst case scenario, we'd die. Best case, well…. The opposite of course.
Dave picked up a scalpel lying by the side of a dead scientist
"What's that for?" Daesang inquired.
Dave answered him, "Forgive me for having trust issues, but If I'ma die, I ain't gon die without picking a fight".
"Woah… I'm starting to like you" Daesang said brightly,
"Geojismal jaeng-i (lier)! Wiseonja (hypocrite)." Dave said with a smile on his face.
"Mwo(what)? Woah… when did you start speaking Korean?". Daesang asked him
"I schooled here for Christ sake, silly bean, tch!" Said Dave.
I wondered how those two found it comfortable for the chitty chat. After seeing such horrific things in one night, I would probably be traumatized by this even fo he rest of my life, the events of today might actually become my sleep paralysis demon.
One thing I was sure of was that I'm dying in this lab, I would do whatever it takes to come out of this building alive, and if I leave these two, they can keep up the talk for the next two hours, and whatever creature performed this madness could be back at any time. So, I cut right in,
"LET'S GO!" Abruptly, they both stopped and turned towards my direction and into the darkness we went.
Finally, we came to the front door, the word EXIT was boldly written at the top of the door as the green light in it beamed irregularly. The door didn't seem to be in it's best state, well nothing in the lab seemed to be in its natural state either.
"Whatever came here made sure it did a good job at wrecking this place and tearing it apart", Dave said. The first floor was filled with more blood and dead bodies as first floors always had more traffic than any other floor.
Right outside, we saw the man from earlier beside a car waiting for us to come outside, as he set his eyes on us, he started waving towards our direction telling us to hurry. I was scared and doubted a little but my mind was still the same. "Anything to get outta this blood reeking building".
