"Sir, we have confirmed that Daemon Peak has been there once since coming back, but only once."

Connel didn't change his position, but his focus left the water in the glass in his hand despite his eyes still facing it.

With a calm voice and a thoughtful expression, he repeated:

"Once?"

"Yes, sir."

"And the headmistress?"

Understanding that Connel was talking about the headmistress of the orphanage, the man reported seriously:

"She refused to help."

This time Connel had a greater reaction. He raised his head to face his subordinate once again, his unspoken question making the latter elaborate slowly:

"She regrets what she did back then, and she wants to be left alone to die with the last bit of peace she still has."

Instead of getting angry or disappointed, Connel sneered. His disdain, while light on his elegant face, was palpable:

"Now she found her conscience?"
