Chapter 4080: The Lord of Fate

Lin Moyu avoided the rifts and walked over, spotting the other person in a dark corner. To his surprise, the figure was also a cultivator an eternal being. But with the Great Daos suppressed in this place, Lin Moyu couldn't discern which Dao Lord he was.

Lin Moyu bowed again. "Greetings, senior."

The man studied Lin Moyu with increasing curiosity. After a moment, he asked uncertainly, "The Lord of Immortality?"

Lin Moyu nodded slightly. "And you are, senior?"

He replied, "I am the Lord of Fate."

Lin Moyu was startled it was the Lord of Fate! Wasn't the Lord of Fate supposed to be dormant? How could he be here?

Seeing Lin Moyu's reaction, the Lord of Fate said softly, "Don't be surprised. I was indeed dormant, but I woke up long ago. I've just been staying here, where the Daos are suppressed, so it appears I'm still dormant."

A thought struck Lin Moyu. "Senior, are you here for your final step?"

The Lord of Fate sighed. "You could say that. I've wasted millions of years and still haven't made any progress. I don't even know if I'll ever succeed."

For each eternal, the final step is different, depending on their Dao. Only the individual knows how to take that step, and outside help is almost useless.

Lin Moyu was curious, but he knew that asking about the final step was a personal matter and could easily offend.

Instead, he asked, "Senior, have you been here all these millions of years?"

The Lord of Fate replied, "Do you know what this place is?"

Lin Moyu shook his head. "This is my first time here I don't know."

The Lord of Fate explained, "When the world first formed, vast amounts of chaotic energy were transformed into Great Dao origin energy. Besides what was accumulated, the world needed to keep absorbing more. This is where the world absorbs chaotic energy."

Lin Moyu said, "So the world absorbs chaotic energy, turns it into Great Dao origin energy, then into the various Daos for all beings to use."

The Lord of Fate nodded. "That's the basic process, but it's actually more complex. When chaotic energy is transformed, some impurities are produced, which are expelled through the rifts."

His words confirmed Lin Moyu's earlier guesses. Lin Moyu blurted out, "So those impurities become Soul Devourers."

The Lord of Fate chuckled. "You know quite a lot. Soul Devourers are made from the world's impurities they are what the world discards, but also serve as the shell that protects the world and as a prison that blocks transcendence."

Lin Moyu said, "If you manage to take the final step even half a step you'll have to leave the world and face the Soul Devourers. Ordinary ones wouldn't be a problem, but a Soul Devourer King would be difficult."

The Lord of Fate's eyes gleamed. He realized Lin Moyu knew even more than he'd thought. Not all eternals know these things; each walks a different path, and only through years of research had the Lord of Fate learned this. Very few in the world know, especially about the Soul Devourer Kings Lin Moyu seemed to know even more than he did.

The Lord of Fate suddenly asked, "Have you interacted with the Candle Dragon?"

Lin Moyu replied, "I've exchanged a few words, but not much."

The Lord of Fate was puzzled. "You know so many details didn't the Candle Dragon tell you?"

Lin Moyu shook his head. "I've fought Soul Devourers myself, killed quite a few, and even faced a Soul Devourer King. I was almost killed."

The Lord of Fate was even more confused. "How did you end up fighting Soul Devourers? They shouldn't be able to enter this world."

Lin Moyu explained, "It was in the virtual realm. The Kunlun Emperor modified his Great Spirit Domain and opened a passage…"

He briefly described what happened in the virtual Kunlun Great Spirit Domain. The Lord of Fate listened in amazement, murmuring, "I didn't expect the Kunlun Emperor to have taken that step. I truly didn't know. He was bold worthy of being the head of the Nine Emperors. But how did he end up in the Ferry of Tribulation? What a pity."

The Lord of Fate actually said "what a pity." Did that mean something dangerous awaited those who entered the Ferry of Tribulation? Lin Moyu recalled the voice he'd heard in the Ferry and wondered if it was the Kunlun Emperor.

He asked, "Is there anything else about the Ferry of Tribulation?"

The Lord of Fate replied, "The Ferry of Tribulation is the most mysterious thing in existence. It predates our ascension, travels between reality and illusion, and no one knows what's inside. No one who's ever entered has returned."

"There was a Daoist whose final step involved the Ferry, so he went in and never came back."

Lin Moyu asked, "Did he go dormant?"

The Lord of Fate shook his head. "Hard to say maybe dormant, maybe dead."

He didn't specify who, but it was frightening enough. According to the Lord of Fate, Lin Moyu might be the only person in all existence to have entered the Ferry and come back.

The two chatted for a while and became more familiar. The Lord of Fate, having been silent for countless years, now found it hard to stop talking.

Eventually, they got to the main topic. The Lord of Fate spoke about what he'd observed over the years and hinted at his final step.

As the master of the Fate Dao, he could see the future of all beings this was both his strength and his shackle. To break through, he needed to shatter these shackles and detach from the Fate Dao, to see the fate of the world itself. That's why he came here, suppressing his Dao in the Land of Severed Daos, to observe the world's "breathing" and re experience its changes.

Here lay the world's deepest secrets, its patterns, and even some secrets from beyond the world.

For countless years, he watched as lifeforms were drawn from chaos into the world, then expelled, bringing in vast amounts of chaotic energy. Just a minute's influx of chaotic energy could equal years' worth on normal days. According to the Lord of Fate, every so often a chaotic lifeform would be drawn in, bringing a surge of chaotic energy, then be expelled again. This had happened countless times just as natural as eating and drinking for the world.

Despite all his observations, the Lord of Fate admitted he had made no progress in millions of years. He still hadn't found his final step or the right direction. Here, the Fate Dao was suppressed he couldn't see his own fate, let alone the world's. If not for his strong Dao heart, he would have given up long ago.

The Lord of Fate sighed, "Sometimes I think, maybe it's fine not to take that last step just being an eternal isn't so bad."

Lin Moyu thought for a moment and said, "I actually have some different ideas, if senior is willing to hear them."
