Chapter 10: Confronting the Past

As Angela stood in the ice cream shop office, her phone clutched against her ear, someone knocked gently on the door. "Hold on," she told Griffin, grateful for the interruption. "Yes?" she said cautiously through the door. "Is there a problem, Gina? I'm kind of busy."

When Gina didn't answer, Angela gently cracked the door. She was shocked to see Griffin standing on the other side, his phone cradled to his ear. Despite the worry lines dug into his forehead, he grinned when he saw her.

"I was in the car when I called," he said. "You sounded upset." He reached out and pulled her close. "There's nothing we can't face better together."

Angela prayed he believed that because he wouldn't be happy with what she had to tell him. Reassured by his strong embrace, Angela slumped against him with relief. It felt good to be supported. She wished the moment could last forever.
