Chapter 21: Just Like Old Times

"Don't look so worried, Angel," Griffin teased Angela as he smiled down at her in the office hallway. "It's just lunch with an old friend. What harm can it do?"

Of course, Griffin didn't realize the trouble he could cause showing up out of the blue like this, Angela realized. A few careless words to the wrong people and he could destroy everything she'd worked so hard to build these past two years. Besides Peter, no one in Boston had ever questioned her about the identity of Rory's father because she had made it clear it wasn't a topic for discussion. What if Griffin hanging around changed that, and the gossip started? What if word somehow got back to Cookie, and she became suspicious? She couldn't afford to take such chances.

"I'm sorry, but it turns out I don't have much time either," Angela replied, pretending to check her phone. "I hope you understand. We weren't expecting you today."
