Michael
"I, Michael Sander, freshly minted with my Master's degree in Business Administration (MBA), decline your offer to lecture in Sanders College." I repeated this phrase in my head like a mantra, trying to muster up the courage to face my dad.
My father has his ways of manipulating people and he's about to do that to me. I won't let that happen.
I have been away from home for so long. Studying my brains out "to prepare myself for the responsibility of taking over Sander's Enterprise" as I have always been told.
And now??? I have to lecture college students? Majority of teenagers who just left highschool?
No way.
I'd rather work as a personnel in the office.
It gets more annoying as I recall what happened earlier at the mall with that girl.
She'd been so audacious and daring. She had so much of an attitude for a girl her age.
And she couldn't even hide her lustful desires towards me despite her being very rude.
I shouldn't have approached her actually and I don't know why I did. I should have just let it be.
Even though what happened with the old lady was none of my business.
Because it's not my fault she kept staring at me and then obstruct an old lady in the process.
Ok, maybe a little bit was my fault because I also took a glance at her.
She's pretty, I must admit. Long hair, alluring eyes, hot legs, her lips crafted to perfection...
But then when someone talks to you, you should respond and not behave so foolishly.
I must say I love order and comportment. I guess that's why I got irritated about it.
Now imagine me dealing with lots more of such teenagers. I'd lose my shit.
I can't do this.
As I stepped out of my car and into the house, the warm scent of freshly baked cookies enveloped me, and my mom's bright smile greeted me.
"Hey Devan, I've got some things in the car," I said to our housekeeper, trying to sound casual despite the tension building inside me.
"Hey Mikey" I hear my mom call out from the kitchen. She's supervising what they're making for dinner.
"Hey Mom, how was your day?" I say as I give her a hug. Her soft eyes sparkled with warmth, and her gentle touch calmed my nerves.
"It was such a long day honey but I'm glad it's over. How was your meetup?"
I had almost forgotten that I hung out with my friends from college today. I have a lot of things on my mind.
"Went well Mom, where's dad? I have to speak to him" I say and begin to leave the kitchen when my mom holds me back.
She shakes her head as if to tell me not to find him.
I sigh defeated because I know what's coming.
"Look, Mikey, you're doing this for the family," she began, her soft voice pleading with me to understand. "You know the scandal with Professor Clark... we need you to fill in temporarily."
"I know, Mom. But can't it be someone else?" I ask weakly.
No response.
"Ok fine. But please tell Dad to find someone else soon. I'm only filling in temporarily."
Just then, My dad walked in.
He patted me on the back, his usual charming smile masking the tension between us. "We'll find someone soon, son. Don't worry."
I nod my head at him with a stiff smile as I make my way out of the kitchen.
"Hello Darling" I hear my mom say from behind me as she kisses her husband.
He lifts her up and she begins to giggle like a teenager.
They're so in love with each other. She's the only one dad opens up to.
Even us his children don't come close. I wonder why people can't see that they're in love and drop the whole drama about their marriage.
I open the door to my room and…
"Heyyyyy Mikeyyyy…" my two brothers, Trevor and Nelson holler up at me.
"What is it?" I say not finding anything amusing right now.
" Hey man. Chill out, You don't have to be so grumpy" Trevor says
"Yeah.. you'll get old too quickly" Nelson adds in.
"Look, we just thought to say congratulations on your new position as the Business administration professor." They both cheer out loudly.
I notice the bottles of wine laid out in front of me and I smirk.
"I thought school resumes tomorrow, why are you trying to get yourselves drunk?" I say as I pick up a bottle and cork it open.
It makes a sound "poof!" And we begin to scream wildly as we pour ourselves the wine, drinking and laughing away. Trevor regaled us with stories of his latest golf tournament, while Nelson shared his latest video game conquests.
