A Daughter's Duty

Viola

I woke up alone the next day. I let out a sigh of frustration and got off, getting ready for the day. Mother never allowed me to leave my room without getting ready and looking perfect.

I went to the bathroom, freshened up, and dressed in an emerald green shirt, a pair of material shorts, and some flats. My hair was in a low bun, and my face had on light makeup.

I went downstairs and found Nikolas having breakfast at the dinner table. He was reading a newspaper as he slowly sipped his tea.

"Good morning," I greeted and sat opposite him.

He was in a clean-cut suit and his hair was slicked back for the first time. Where had he changed from? Did he come into our room sometime in the morning and change?

I credited myself for being a light sleeper. I would have heard him and I didn't.

Where did he get the suit? Where did he shower? Was he that desperate to stay away from me?
