Side chapter: Valentine's Day, part 2

The first thing I noticed when I woke up was warmth. The kind of warmth that came from thick blankets and soft pillows, but mostly from the presence of Carmen beside me.

I stretched lazily, feeling the delicious ache of a good night's rest, and a slow smile curled on my lips before I even opened my eyes. Today, I had nothing to do. No work. No calls.

No stress. Just a free day to enjoy however I wanted—and knowing Carmen, she probably had something planned.

The second thing I noticed was the scent. Sweet and rich, filling the air with a mixture of vanilla, fresh strawberries, and something buttery.

I blinked my eyes open, my gaze landing on a tray of food placed neatly beside me on the bed.Carmen had brought me breakfast in bed.My smile widened as I pushed myself up, propping myself against the pillows.

A perfect stack of pancakes sat on a plate, golden and fluffy, drizzled with syrup and topped with fresh strawberries and whipped cream.
