Isabel groaned dramatically, smacking the steering wheel again as if that would magically bring the car back to life. Spoiler: it didn't.
"I swear, this car hates me," she muttered, throwing her head back against the seat. "Of all the days to break down, it picks now?"
I pinched the bridge of my nose, trying not to let frustration creep in. "Okay. Breathe. Let's think. Can you call someone to fix it?"
"Oh sure, let me just pull a mechanic out of thin air," Isabel snapped, pulling out her phone anyway. "This is going to take forever. And let me remind you, you have a scavenger hunt to get to."
She was right. Carmen had meticulously planned every detail of this day, and I was not about to let a car ruin it.
"We need another way to get there," I said, scanning the street.
Isabel snorted. "You gonna run?"
I side-eyed her. "First of all, no. Second of all… we could take a cab?"
