There was silence in my room for about two minutes. Curtis was silent over the phone. Miranda was silent over here.
Storm was tired too of talking to both of them, so she had remained silent too. A minute later, she walked back to her bed and sat down, choosing to wait until either of them decided to speak and make this event more interesting.
"Curtis…" Miranda started, and Storm smirked before she could even stop herself, more like a knee jerk reaction. Her body sure knew how to respond to stuff like this.
"I…did…it was all stage work, just…" Miranda was saying, and before Storm could stop myself, she let out an outburst of laughter, unperturbed when Miranda glared at her.
Did her stepsister think that she would be stopped by that? Storm wondered, feeling the laughter flow out of her like never before. She guessed that no one has humiliated Miranda this way before. It was good that she was the first then.
"Curtis…" Miranda started again, but the young man was probably tired of hearing more lies as his voice boomed across the phone the next second.
"Stop Miranda. I feel disgusted by you. You are a shame, and don't compare at all to Storm." Curtis said and Storm scoffed.
The frailty of man.
What was the idiot trying to do by the way? Comparing Miranda to her? She thought, aware of Miranda who moved to the wall and rested her back on it, probably reeling over the news.
What's with the sad face? Storm thought in amusement, remembering that Miranda had been the one saying she wanted to break up with Curtis? Why the change of heart? Does she no longer want Kaden?
"We are done Miranda…you are free to go be with your new neighbour, whosoever that is. Don't bother calling or texting, I already blocked your number." Curtis said, steel in his voice.
Storm doubted that her ex was in pain though. For all she knew, he could be with another girl already. If he could sleep with her stepsister whilst dating her, who said he wouldn't do the same to the dumbo in front of her?
Storm believed that she was actually doing her stepsister a favour. But she doubted that Miranda would see it that way.
"Storm.." Curtis called her, and she furrowed her eyebrows, aware that Miranda's attention was drawn to whatever her ex-boyfriend was about to say.
"Yes Curtis…is there a problem?" Storm asked, hoping he doesn't say what she thought he would say. If he really did that, he was less than a jerk. He was an idiot or something in the lines of that.
"Not really. I am sorry for the loss of your dad. I hadn't known about that. Miranda hadn't told me either." He muttered, and she clicked her tongue. Perhaps he wasn't that stupid.
"It's okay. He died this morning after all. I, too, haven't told anybody." She replied wanting to add that she wouldn't have told him either even if she did broadcast the news.
"I see. Accept my heartfelt condolences then. Has the burial date been fixed?"He asked, and she shook my head, forgetting for a second that he couldn't see her head movement.
"No, it hasn't been fixed. Probably later in the day. My stepmother is still crying her eyes and ass out." She pointed out, swishing her nose when she saw Miranda glare at her again.
It was funny to Storm that Miranda could hear Curtis laughing on the other side of the phone.
Wow, he didn't even wait a second to turn his back totally against her. He didn't love her then. Storm guessed.
The dude had been toying around with her like he did me.
Well, they could all go to hell. She didn't care. She just needed to know why the damned Jess had preferred to let her father die than asking her to save him. That was just the explanation she needed.
"I see." Curtis said "I will see you around Storm clouds" He muttered before ending the call, and Storm hissed, glaring at the phone.
Storm clouds?? The audacity of him choosing to call her the nickname he will usually tease her with especially if he wanted to bite her ears or kiss her.
What was he trying to achieve with that? Did he think she would come back to him?
Well, the boy was free to dream. She thought, shrugging her shoulders before lying her upper body flat on the bed, whilst her legs stayed on the ground.
"Are you happy now? That you managed to break up me and Curtis? Have you always been this jealous of us?" Miranda asked and Storm snorted.
Jealous? The girl was mad.
"No sister, I'm anything but jealous. You should actually be glad that I helped you and got rid of him. That way you have the full right and freedom to chase after our new neighbour." Storm said, closing her eyes before opening it speedily the next second.
She didn't trust my sister. For all she knew, the latter might decide to suffocate her with a pillow. After all, the apple doesn't fall far from the tree.
"Aren't you going to leave?" She asked, after waiting for a comeback from Miranda but getting none.
Since the latter had nothing to offer again, she should be going. Storm mused. She needed her peace of mind now. She needed some quiet.
Even though she was acting and talking bravely, she knew that her father's death had somehow hurt her. She wouldn't acknowledge that openly though.
He was her blood after all, the only person left of her in this entire world, and now he was gone, just like that. No warning signs or anything. It was really tragic.
"I will. Just know that your misery has already started. Your father's death was just the tip of the iceberg." Miranda replied, causing Storm to jerk up straight on the bed.
There was a notable smirk on her sister's face, and her hands were folded on her chest.
"What do you mean by that?" Storm asked her, getting up from the bed.
"You heard me right, sister. I will make your life a living hell, Storm. You haven't seen anything yet. You are a fan of surprises right? I think you will like the surprises coming soon….sister…" Miranda answered coyly, before turning around and walking away.
