CHLOE's POV
‘‘I have no idea what you're talking about!’’ The elderly guy lost his cool, even though his denial appeared feeble. ‘‘Listen, if you don't leave right now I'm going to call the officers!’’
‘‘How are you connected to Scarlet in any way?’’ I interjected, fighting a losing battle to keep my cool. It was extremely aggravating since he appeared to know something yet refused to cooperate with the investigation. ‘‘Where can we find her? How do you know who I am?’’
I felt Chad's hand on my shoulder, and he gave a gentle but firm squeeze out of an abundance of caution. I tried to calm the racing nerves by closing my eyes, taking a deep breath, and imaging that Easton was stroking me with his hand to soothe me in ways that I couldn't express. This helped a little bit.
‘‘Don't panic and keep your cool...’’ Chad murmured, and again… I heard what I thought was Easton's voice in my ears.
