The fact that Chloe put her faith in me to help her recover made me feel like dancing with joy. I saw opportunities and chances for us to start all over again.
I spoke to Chloe about her life for close to an hour about it. Everything I knew about her, including her family and the fact that she had worked for me as my personal assistant for three years… how I had asked her to be my fake girlfriend until my feelings for her developed… and how she ultimately became my fiancee when I proposed to her.
I didn’t go into the specifics regarding her ex-boyfriend Jasper and my ex-wife Rosie. I wanted the happy memories that I was going to share with her to be the ones that she would remember, rather than the sad ones.
‘‘Are there any of the things I've said that you remember?’’ I inquired with the expectation that she'd reply in the affirmative.
