“Yes,”
My voice came out way too hoarse than it should be, and instantly I cleared my throat to make my voice appear calmer.
“The accountant, he asked me to hand this over to you,” I came up with an excuse about which I had already thought beforehand.
“Keep it at the table, please,” Derek’s voice was low and weak, and as he spoke from above the flair of stairs his voice appeared too shallow which somehow made me feel concerned for him.
With a few steps, I reached the table and placed the envelope at the top of it, and then turned to leave with Derek’s cold attitude surrounding me.
ONE
TWO
THREE
Just three steps away and then something switched in my heart and I stopped, turned around, and climbed the stairs to reach him.
BOOM
“I can’t leave without knowing that you’re well, and don’t need anything,” I spoke out of my nature and waited for Derek to appear surprised or shocked but instead he remained calm.
