‘‘I really can't stop you from leaving us, am I right?’’ Immediately after she entered the room and closed the door behind her, my mother-in-law questioned grandma. Her countenance was in a glum mood. When I made up my mind to leave this place because of her son, she had the exact emotion on her face. This woman genuinely cares about all of the people around her. Unfortunately, her son didn’t get this trait from her.
Grandma gave a little shake of the head. ‘‘I am so sorry, Sylvia...’’
Sylvia nodded in understanding. ‘‘I also want to express my deepest apologies for what my son did to Katrina…’’ her emerald green eyes shifted on me, and I bit my lip, lowering my gaze on my lap. Why was she the one apologizing? ‘‘I know that you’re already aware of what he did, and I’m really sorry for that. I am the one who should be held accountable for this...''
