540. Intrigue.

Stepping out of the portal and looking at the familiar mysterious house's hall, Alex relaxed completely.

"Anyway, home is always the best haven."

He stretched lazily and yawned.

The food at Wayne Manor during this time had been really good, and he had benefited from Tim's company. To help the boy become the true Robin, old Bruce Wayne had made sure to prepare the finest meals for him.

It's said that poor in literature, rich in martial arts; if you want to make your body more resilient, your nutrition must keep up. This was especially true for Tim, whose physical constitution was on the weaker side.

To help him, old Bruce Wayne had spent a fortune collecting ingredients from all over the world. While he hadn't intended for Tim to become as strong as himself, at least he wanted him to have enough self-preservation ability in case of danger.

Thanks to that, Alex had enjoyed some hearty meals after a long time without proper food in the Wasteland Universe.

Perhaps hearing the sounds from the hall, a man and a woman walked down the corridor.

"You're back, Alex. Honestly, you could have woken me up when you left," Tony Stark said, dressed in a well-tailored suit, his gaze slightly reproachful.

By his side, a tall woman in a snow-white evening gown entered. She immediately drew everyone's attention. This woman was none other than Emma Frost, the White Queen.

"You were so drunk you couldn't recognize anyone, so you should have just rested well," Alex casually replied, then turned to Emma Frost. "It looks like you've recovered well. How do you feel now?"

Before Emma Frost could speak, Tony Stark adjusted his collar and confidently said,

"Do you still need to worry when I'm involved? While I'm an excellent sorcerer, don't forget my tech skills are also top-notch. It's too easy to make time flow through the body and reverse aging."

After a pause, Emma Frost nodded. "Yes, I feel great now. It's like a heavy burden has been lifted off me. My mind and mental strength are clearer, and my diamond-forming ability has returned."

Seeing this, Tony Stark shrugged and gave Alex a "See, I told you" look.

"Don't think I don't know that your device's main power source is Reed Richards."

Alex rolled his eyes, then turned back to Emma Frost and continued, "Time is a very strange thing. Our control over it is still in its infancy. But since you've chosen to join the Overseers, in the Wasteland Universe, you'll have to make some sacrifices."

"I understand. Tony has already explained the responsibilities of the Overseers to me. Once I join, I suppose I won't be able to continue teaching at Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters," Emma Frost said, her eyes showing some melancholy.

Having lived through so many hardships in the Wasteland Universe, her only wish now was to return to the past, to teach the young mutants and experience a simple, ordinary life.

But now, she was young again, and yet that wish might never be fulfilled.

"Actually, if you want to go back and continue teaching, it's not impossible," Alex said, stroking his chin, murmuring to himself.

"Really?" Emma Frost's eyes widened.

"The Overseers' control over the timeline isn't always from a god's perspective. You've seen Pietro and Kara jumping around in the Wasteland Universe, haven't you?"

Alex explained, then continued more seriously,

"What I mean is, if you want to go back to teach, you must strictly follow the flow of the timeline. In other words, you have to be the person in the timeline at that point.

If you want to be in the present, then you can only appear in the present. You can't randomly show up in the past or the future, as it would easily cause branches in the timeline and create paradoxes that lead to parallel universes."

"You mean, wherever I leave the Wasteland, I have to return to that same point in time, just like when you brought me here?" Emma Frost thought for a moment and asked.

"Yes, you can understand it that way," Alex nodded.

"Then I agree," Emma Frost said immediately.

"Good," Alex smiled. "I was worried about leaving those kids with Wolverine, but with you watching over the Wasteland mutants, I can relax a lot."

The White Queen, Emma Frost, smiled softly, her smile blooming like ice crystal petals, making Tony Stark, who stood nearby, stare in surprise.

In fact, among the Overseers organization, there weren't many confirmed members. The core team consisted of Mr. Fantastic and his wife, Kara, Pietro, Ashley, and Tony Stark.

Although members of the Justice League were aware of the Overseers' existence and had joined Alex and others on missions to other universes, they were not official members—just temporary affiliates.

Those members were mostly full-time in the Wasteland, only coming to the Overseers when Alex and the others needed their help.

"However, you also need to understand that if there's a mission for the Overseers, you'll have to come here anytime," Alex reminded.

"Don't worry, I can distinguish priorities," Emma Frost nodded seriously.

"Good, I believe in you. And you don't need to worry too much. The Overseers have Tony Stark and Mr. Fantastic watching over things, so there shouldn't be any major issues."

With that, Alex took a couple of steps forward. "Since we've made the arrangements, let me take you back. I also need to deliver supplies to Luthor."

"You've already found the right supplies?" Emma Frost asked, somewhat surprised but mostly thrilled, knowing how crucial these supplies were to the current Wasteland.

"Yes."

Alex smiled, his lips curling.

"I have some connections in other universes."

Wasteland Universe, Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters.

Upon returning to her room, Emma Frost felt like she had just woken from a dream. She had been too hesitant to believe her past experiences until she looked at her still youthful body, which made her breathe a sigh of relief.

Seeing that the weight had finally been lifted from Emma Frost's heart, Alex couldn't help but smile.

"Let's go, Emma. I'm sure Logan's already waiting outside."

"Mm." Emma Frost turned her head, her captivating eyes sparkling.

Turning away, Alex approached the door, reaching for the handle of Emma Frost's room.

"So soon?"

Outside the door, Logan raised an eyebrow. He clearly hadn't realized what had just happened, as he had only stepped out a short while ago.

"Yes, very quickly," Alex patted Logan's arm. Considering Wolverine, it was probably a surprise for him that in the span of a few seconds, Alex had already gone back and forth between the Wasteland and Flashpoint Universe.

"Logan."

Behind Alex, Emma Frost smiled at Logan, her eyes filled with a mix of emotions—excitement, joy, and something even more delicate.

"Emma, you're..." Logan was stunned to see Emma Frost had actually gotten out of bed. Her body had been close to its limit, unable to stand normally, so how could she possibly have gotten out of bed?

He opened his mouth but quickly turned to look at Alex.

Noticing Logan's gaze, Alex smiled and nodded. "Alright, I'm sure you two have a lot to talk about. I won't disturb you. I've got some things to take care of, so I'll be leaving now."

"Wait, we..."

Logan was about to say something but was interrupted by Alex raising his hand.

"Emma will fill you in on the details. I need to head to the League Tower, but once I'm done, we'll have plenty of time to talk." He then turned to Emma Frost. "You've got the school covered."

"Mm, don't worry." Emma Frost's tone was firm.

With a smile, Alex didn't linger further. He turned and walked toward the exit.

As he walked through the hallway, around the corner by the winding staircase, Alex sensed two people quietly hiding there, seemingly eavesdropping on something.

"You two, what are you doing?"

As soon as Alex turned his head, he saw Pietro and Ashley. They knew their actions wouldn't escape his senses, so when they saw him coming, they didn't react, merely watching Logan and Emma at the end of the hallway.

"Looks like there's something going on," Ashley squinted her eyes.

Pietro beside her nodded repeatedly. "Yep, definitely, without a doubt, there's something going on!"

Alex rolled his eyes and couldn't help but laugh. When did these two become so interested in other people's gossip? Two superheroes acting like paparazzi.

"Alright, enough of you two." He raised his hand to pull them up and shook his head in exasperation. "Stop spreading rumors. Logan has a wife and kids, and both Logan and Emma have had enough trouble already."

In fact, if Logan and Emma really did end up together, it might be a beautiful ending, but not every relationship needs to conclude with love.

Both Emma and Logan had started their own new lives. Together, they were working to rebuild Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters, and this was their way of redemption.

For them, this ending was already perfect.

"Alright, alright, let's go. I've been busy for so long and now I have to deal with you two causing trouble." Alex pulled the two of them down the stairs. "By the way, where's Kara?"

"She's still in the cafeteria with Raven. We both feel a bit uncomfortable around so many kids," Pietro scratched his head and laughed.

"Why's that?" Alex raised an eyebrow.

"Just feels weird, and we have to pretend to be all grown up. It's too much work, considering we're not that old ourselves," Ashley spoke up.

Hearing that, Alex couldn't help but shake his head. Looking at Pietro and Ashley, two carefree optimists, he sighed deeply.

"Sometimes, I really envy you two."

Upon hearing this, Pietro and Ashley exchanged puzzled glances, both not understanding the meaning behind Alex's words.

Alex didn't explain further, instead continuing his walk toward the cafeteria.
