585. The New Devourer of Worlds

After understanding the entire situation, Billy turned his attention to the surrounding green crystal space barrier.

"This thing… is also your handiwork?"

"Yes. While I can withstand the assault of those chaotic energy tides, they are extremely lethal to ordinary people. Even with your divine body, you wouldn't be able to endure it."

Alex raised his hand, touching the solid, translucent dark green crystal as he spoke casually.

"After the Peregrine Child exploded, I had to retrieve Lightbringer from the elemental fragments scattered in the chaotic energy. To protect you, I created this space—you can think of it as a pocket universe."

Speaking of pocket universes, the most famous example was undoubtedly the one created by Franklin, the Avatar. When the world was destroyed and all superheroes had heroically perished, Franklin had simply smiled and conjured a new universe from his pocket.

In that new universe, all the fallen superheroes and ordinary people were resurrected, and the pocket universe even replaced the original one, hard-resetting the entire cosmos.

Because of feats like this, Franklin's "cheat level" skyrocketed. Despite being just a child, his combat power seemed on par with the gods of the universe.

Of course, Alex was well aware that this only applied to the Franklin of the main universe. In other versions of the multiverse, Franklin could be nothing more than an easily defeated kid.

Thinking about Franklin reminded Alex of the Avatar and the Brainstorm. He had told them to leave quickly earlier—he wondered how those two were doing now.

As if they were thinking the same thing, Billy also suddenly remembered the two young heroes who had come with them. He quickly grabbed Alex's arm.

"Alex, that explosion earlier… it didn't affect Reed's two kids, did it?"

"The energy wave covered the entire universe. If even reality was affected, then Brainstorm and Avatar definitely weren't spared. I doubt they got very far."

"What?! Then we need to find them, fast! Without your protection, they're in serious danger!" Billy jumped up in alarm.

"Relax, Billy. Franklin isn't as weak as you think. It was just an energy tide. I'm fine, so he'll be fine too."

Alex suddenly smirked. "In fact, he might even gain something from it."

"Gain something? What do you mean? Even the gods had to retreat from that terrifying energy. How could a kid like Franklin possibly handle it?" Billy asked, exasperated.

As Alex and Billy argued, Lightbringer suddenly spoke up.

"Hey, guys, there's… something weird happening over here."

Hearing this, Alex and Billy exchanged glances before simultaneously turning toward Lightbringer.

Under their gaze, Lightbringer pointed outside the translucent crystal with a strange expression.

"Am I seeing things… or is there an Ultraman out there?"

In the world of The Boys, beyond the celebrity superheroes manufactured by Vought International, various other franchises still existed—Ultraman, Godzilla, and so on.

Though the rise of actual superheroes had impacted the sales of fictional ones, Lightbringer had still been exposed to these stories as a kid. He had been fascinated by the giants of light and enormous kaiju.

So when he saw a colossal, glowing giant approaching from the distance, he was completely dumbfounded.

"???"

It wasn't just Lightbringer—Billy was also stunned.

He quickly rushed to Lightbringer's side, peering outside through the crystal. Sure enough, there was a massive being of light, steadily making its way toward them.

"You've got to be kidding me…"

Billy stared at the unbelievable sight, his brain practically short-circuiting.

Even Lightbringer couldn't help but ask Alex, "What kind of universe have you thrown me into? If we're up against kaiju, I don't think my flames will be of much help."

"You sure have a wild imagination. Relax, it's not as crazy as you think."

Sensing the immense presence outside, Alex chuckled and leisurely stepped between them. With a knowing smile, he said, "Billy, weren't you just worried about the Avatar and Brainstorm? Well, take a look—they seem to be doing just fine."

"What?" Billy snapped his head toward Alex, then back to the giant of light, his eyes wide in disbelief. "You're telling me… that thing is Franklin?!"

"Mhmm."

Alex raised an eyebrow.

When the Peregrine Child exploded, Alex had immediately asked Miss Minutes to locate the Avatar and Brainstorm. If they had been in real danger, he would have transported them back to the House of Mystery.

However, as long as he could ensure their survival, he had decided to take a gamble. And now, it seemed his bet had paid off—this overwhelming energy tide had become the ultimate nourishment for Franklin.

Though he hadn't yet reached the level where he could create universes from scratch, after absorbing a massive amount of magical energy, Franklin had essentially become a cosmic entity akin to a starving Devourer of Worlds.

The sheer volume of energy within him had transformed into cosmic secret power, making Franklin nothing short of a god in the wasteland universe.

And when a universe births such an immensely powerful being, even if he has no intention of doing so, the energy within him will naturally radiate outward, reinforcing the fabric of the universe itself.

In a way, Franklin had become the equivalent of a Devourer of Worlds.

As a leader of the Overseers, Alex's primary duty was to safeguard the wasteland timeline and ensure its stability.

However, just as the universe contained countless unseen magical dimensions, there were also threats beyond the Overseers' ability to detect and neutralize in advance.

In times like these, having a being akin to a Devourer of Worlds was essential.

Using the Peregrine Child as an example—if the Devourer of Worlds still existed in the Wasteland Universe, that entity likely wouldn't have dared to show itself so recklessly. Even if it did appear, it probably wouldn't have chosen the reality dimension as its target.

For the Devourer of Worlds, the reality dimension was its domain. The moment the Peregrine Child invaded, the Devourer—sensing the presence of foreign energy—would have descended without hesitation.

At that point, it would be difficult to predict the outcome of their battle. But as long as the Devourer of Worlds wasn't in a state of hunger, it wouldn't have been too hard to swat the Peregrine Child back into the magical dimension.

Now, Franklin—having absorbed an endless supply of magical energy—had reached the level of a Devourer. His energy was now entirely linked to this universe.

Once Franklin fully returned to the real world, a new "Devourer of Worlds" would be born. When that happened, with Franklin overseeing the Wasteland Universe, Alex would have far fewer concerns.

At the very least, with such a powerful entity present, Alex wouldn't need to worry about formidable external threats invading.

As Alex was deep in thought, the colossal giant of light began to shrink. The soft white glow gradually dimmed, and within the pocket universe where Alex and the others stood, a sphere of light slowly took form.

The light trembled slightly before gradually outlining a humanoid figure.

All three of them turned their gaze toward it. Moments later, Franklin emerged from the light, and beside him stood his sister, Brainstorm.

"The human form of the Giant of Light… is just a kid?" Lightbringer took a few steps back, his eyes filled with shock as he looked at the two children.

"You're okay! That's a relief." Billy, on the other hand, was simply overjoyed.

Franklin gave Billy a slight nod before turning his head toward Alex. "I heard your voice."

Alex smiled. "You did well."

Alex had been keeping Miss Minutes focused on monitoring Avatar and Brainstorm's situation, so how could he not know what they had gone through?

From the moment Franklin transformed into the colossal being of light, Alex had already transmitted his voice to him, explaining the situation in detail.

It was only then that Franklin was able to calm his heart, and with his sister by his side, he actively sought out Alex and the others.

"Mr. Alex, your plan worked. I can feel it—magic has completely returned to the real world. It won't be long before the echoes of magic spread throughout the universe," Franklin said with a smile.

"Yeah, we did it. And congratulations to you, Franklin. You are now truly Avatar."

Alex reached out and ruffled Franklin's hair. Though he had anticipated this outcome, standing face-to-face with Franklin now, he was still taken aback by the sheer magnitude of energy radiating from the boy's body.

This kind of power had completely surpassed the boundaries of biological existence.

More importantly, Alex noticed that Franklin's connection to the Wasteland Universe was becoming stronger and stronger.

He had heard before that every universe had an entity that served as its stabilizing force—what was known as a Anchor Being. If that entity were ever destroyed, the entire universe would collapse and be annihilated.

He couldn't help but wonder… had Franklin now become that very thing?
