586. The Return of Magic!

The concept of the Anchor Being isn't baseless speculation.

In the Secret Wars comics, a similar existence was revealed—none other than Molecule Man, who was considered the second most powerful being in the Marvel Universe.

His name might sound like that of a third-rate hero or a second-tier villain, but in reality, the power he wielded far surpassed the multiversal level, even posing a threat to the strongest beings beyond the world itself.

Molecule Man, whose real name was Owen Reece, was originally portrayed as a scientist who gained immense power from an experiment gone wrong, allowing him to manipulate all matter and energy at the subatomic level.

As his backstory and secrets were gradually unveiled, he was redefined as an omnipotent being—an existence combining the power of both Galactus and the Beyonder, and a part of the Cosmic Cube itself.

Eventually, Molecule Man admitted his true origin: he was the singularity of the universe, a cosmic bomb created by the Beyonders.

Every major parallel universe contained a version of Molecule Man, and the Beyonders planned to detonate them simultaneously, ensuring the destruction of the entire multiverse.

If these critical points—which connected the vast majority of universes—were to shatter, the entire multiverse would collapse. At that point, even universes without a Molecule Man wouldn't be spared.

This plan ultimately failed, but the idea that every multiverse has a Anchor Being persisted.

In his past life, Alex had heard rumors that even the Marvel Cinematic Universe was planning to adopt this concept. He wasn't sure if the same rule applied to the Wasteland Universe.

If Franklin truly became this universe's Anchor Being, Alex knew he would have to keep a close watch on him—at the very least, Franklin needed to understand the responsibility on his shoulders.

Despite his transcendent combat abilities, Franklin was still a child. Without proper guidance and education, there was no telling what his future might hold.

But there was no rush—things had to be done gradually and with a proper plan.

With that thought, Alex smiled at Franklin and asked,

"How do you feel? Can you control the energy in your body? You just absorbed magic from multiple mystical dimensions. That stuff is complicated—there's all sorts of things mixed in, not just magic but even energies from various divine realms. Don't go giving yourself a stomachache."

Franklin responded with a confident smile. "Don't worry, Mr. Alex. The energy is complex—some of it's from Hell, some from divine realms—but I'm already converting it into cosmic mystical energy. It won't take long before I can use it completely."

Hearing this, Alex nodded in approval.

"Not bad, kid. You really are talented. But be careful—your body might have adapted to the energy, but the residual creation shockwave is still out there. Nobody's converting that."

Franklin frowned. "Mr. Alex, what do you mean?"

Before Alex could answer, Brainstorm spoke up.

"It's simple. Energy of that magnitude must have affected the entire universe. That means the whole cosmos is about to enter a period of Great Evolution."

Franklin, Billy, and the Lightbringer perked up, listening curiously.

Seeing their reactions, Brainstorm shook her head. She had basically spelled it out, yet they still didn't get it. After a brief pause, she explained further.

"The Wasteland Universe lost its magic due to the War of the Past. The magic wasn't just expelled—it was exiled, along with entire magical dimensions surrounding reality.

But now, this Genesis Explosion has brought an unlimited surge of magic back into the Wasteland Universe. And that means one thing—the revival of magical creatures and the reappearance of legendary monsters."

"Exactly."

Alex nodded and added, "I originally wanted to bring magic back gradually, in a more peaceful manner. But this whole thing got way out of control. With this level of magic energy flooding the universe, even artifacts are probably waking up instantly."

Billy tilted his head. "Wait, isn't that a good thing? If magic is back, shouldn't reality return to its proper course?"

"It depends on how you look at it," Brainstorm replied. "The good news? Yes, magic is back. The bad news? Mr. Alex made the same mistake as he did with 'random teleportation.'"

Alex looked away and muttered, "That was an accident. I only handled the teleportation. I didn't set the coordinates—that was Constantine's fault."

Brainstorm, being tactful, ignored the remark and continued.

"Random teleportation scattered people from another universe across Earth. That kind of uncontrolled event can easily result in deaths. The same goes for this Magic Cataclysm.

It's not just artifacts that are awakening—undead spirits will rise, along with dark magic, forbidden sorcery, and countless unknown dangers."

Alex nodded in agreement. "The Peregrine Child devoured countless magical dimensions. And the worst part? It always lurked on the fringes of reality, consuming dimensions far beyond our reach—places we've never even heard of.

Take the Three Mothers, for example. Their magical realm was unknown to us, and the power they wielded? You all saw it firsthand—black magic beyond even divine power.

If those unknown mystical energies start flooding the real world, it's going to be far more of a curse than a blessing for the Wasteland Universe."

Franklin nodded in realization. "I see… so for the foreseeable future, Earth is going to experience all sorts of strange powers appearing. Mr. Alex, are you worried that people might misuse those forces?"

"It's not just Earth—the entire universe will be affected. Who knows? In some distant star system, we might even see entire black magic-born monstrosities emerging. At that point, a lot of planetary civilizations will be at risk."

Alex crossed his arms, his expression turning serious.

"And it's not just monsters. The Gods will return to the public eye. The only question is—who arrives first? The monsters or the Gods?"

The origins of deities were widely debated, but one thing was clear—as long as there was enough magic in the universe, divine beings could emerge through sheer faith energy.

Some gods formed naturally from the cosmos, while others were mortal beings elevated by faith and power. But regardless of their origin, one truth remained: gods were incredibly powerful—and nearly impossible to control.

Look at Asgard—Odin called himself a god, but in his youth, he was just another conqueror, waging war across the cosmos and subjugating countless civilizations.

And the Egyptian Pantheon was no better. Gods like Khonshu and Anubis directly interfered in the mortal world, shaping events to suit their own desires.

From this perspective, the return of gods wasn't necessarily a good thing. A god may start as a benevolent protector, but over time, even they succumb to emotions and desires.

Odin. Zeus.

The new gods about to be born would be no exception.

To prevent these newborn deities from betraying their worshippers, and to avoid another Black Blade Massacre of the Gods, Alex knew one thing—

He would personally make sure this universe's divine order was set straight.

Taking advantage of the fact that those monsters and deities hadn't appeared yet, it was best to make the necessary preparations in advance. That way, when the unexpected happened, they would be ready.

"Don't worry, Alex, leave this to me!"

The Brainstorm patted her chest confidently.

"As soon as I get back, I'll create an energy detection device. I'll set the analysis source in the House of Mystery and use the Overseer's authority to scan the entire Wasteland Universe. That way, no matter where a magical lifeform emerges, we'll be the first to detect it."

"Really? You can do something like that?" Alex raised an eyebrow, genuinely surprised by the so-called black tech Brainstorm mentioned.

If that device could truly function as she described, then it would add an extra layer of security to the Wasteland Universe.

The birth of magic often brought death, and none more so than black magic.

If a chaotic and evil god of death were to emerge on some planet, it could spell doom for that world and the surrounding civilizations.

But with the equipment Brainstorm described, Alex and the others would have far more options to respond.

"Of course I can do it. This kind of thing… isn't it pretty simple?" Brainstorm blinked, not understanding why Alex was making such a big deal out of it.

"Alright, forget I asked." Alex waved his hand, realizing he had momentarily forgotten just how capable this girl was.

Handcrafting black tech, huh? This girl was way more capable than her father.

And, honestly, much more reliable too.

"Alright then, no point standing around here. Franklin, where's our train?"

"Right here."

Franklin pulled a battered train out of his pocket, looking no bigger than a toy.

"Tch."

Alex sighed as he looked at the Hogwarts Express, now barely recognizable after being ravaged by energy.

"Forget it, I'll just open a portal instead."

"You guys follow me back to the Overseer's headquarters first. This mission took a lot out of everyone, so there's no rush to return to reality. Let's head to the House of Mystery and get some rest."

Saying that, Alex turned to the Lightbringer.

"Perfect timing. While we're at it, I can properly introduce you to our 'home.'"
