'A new Black Emperor? Doesn't that mean my father won't be able to resurrect?' Hearing Lynn's words, Bernadette's hand suddenly clenched tightly.
As Roselle's daughter, Bernadette naturally knew the resurrection mechanism of the Black Emperor. After the Black Emperor's fall, the most thorough way to prevent his resurrection, besides destroying all of his tombs and overthrowing his order, is to let a new Black Emperor be born.
This meant that if the Augustus Royal Family truly supported the rise of a new Black Emperor, even if her father Roselle managed to rid himself of corruption later, he would fall and could not use the Black Emperor's characteristics to resurrect.
This was something Bernadette could never accept.
Lynn noticed Bernadette's reaction and took another sip of coffee before smiling and saying, "You should understand what this means."
"Yes, I understand." Bernadette nodded solemnly and continued, "Lord Angel of Secrets, since you chose to inform me of this and have made a deal with my father, I suppose you also do not wish for a new Black Emperor to emerge, correct?" Her tone carried a hint of anticipation and caution.
Though deeply angry, Bernadette knew very well that if the Augustus Royal Family was determined to support a new Black Emperor, she alone, as a Sequence 3, could hardly stop it unless someone of a higher Sequence was willing to intervene.
"I indeed do not want a new Black Emperor to emerge," Lynn said, putting down his coffee and not denying Bernadette's speculation. However, he added after seeing her instinctively relax, "But for certain reasons, I cannot intervene excessively in this matter, otherwise..."
Lynn paused, smiling before continuing, "The fragile nerves of the Seven Gods probably wouldn't be able to handle it."
Bernadette was shocked by this, hesitating for a moment before cautiously asking, "Do you mean the Seven Gods support the Augustus Royal Family's plan to bring forth a new Black Emperor?"
"Not support, but they do not oppose it. They have chosen to tacitly approve," Lynn shook his head with a smile. The Seven Gods' attitude towards the Augustus family's plan to support a new Black Emperor was clear in the original story.
Lynn believed that even if he exposed this matter now, the Seven Gods would likely choose to tacitly approve, just as in the original story. The Augustus family had made enough preparations, even to the extent of using the Great Smog to destroy evidence of population disappearance. They certainly wouldn't lack the additional year or two for preparation. Moreover, having another Black Emperor in this world wouldn't be too bad for the Seven Gods.
As for George III becoming the Black Emperor and the immense disaster he would bring to the common people, what did it matter to the Seven Gods?
Though the Seven Gods protected this world, they were not merciful.
Or rather, in their eyes, such sacrifices were acceptable for the survival of this world.
Lynn didn't comment on their attitude. The underlying rules and harsh reality of the Mysteries world made many things impossible to achieve perfectly. No matter how one might criticize the choices of the Seven Gods, the fact that they protected this world remained.
However, Lynn didn't intend to make the same choice as the Seven Gods. This wasn't because he was particularly kind, but simply because he had more options.
Within his range of choices, Lynn didn't mind doing a bit of good.
'The Seven Gods had chosen to tacitly approve, but what about my father...' Bernadette's mind was in turmoil. She bit her lip before asking, "What do you want me to do?"
Although Lynn had stated his intention not to intervene excessively, Bernadette quickly realized that not intervening excessively didn't mean not intervening at all. If he truly didn't want to get involved, he wouldn't have informed her of this matter.
"Don't worry too much. The new Black Emperor won't emerge so quickly. The Augustus family still needs a bit more time to prepare. This disaster is just a cover for their real purpose..."
Lynn spoke with a reassuring tone and then looked up at Bernadette with a meaningful smile. "As for you..."
Lynn suddenly snapped his fingers, and a knowledge package that looked like a bubble appeared in front of him, floating in mid-air.
"This contains all the information about this matter. After you receive it, you can decide whether or not to participate."
Bernadette's eyes widened at the crystal-like bubble floating in the air. She almost immediately reached out and touched it.
Subsequently, information about the Augustus Royal Family's conspiracy, the possible involvement of an Kings of Angels, and the secret organizations collaborating with the Augustus family flooded Bernadette's mind.
These pieces of information were not overly complex for Bernadette, who had received multiple knowledge infusions from the Hidden Sage. She easily absorbed it all.
Lynn quietly watched Bernadette digest the information. He could clearly see her expression growing paler as she processed the data.
Lynn wasn't surprised. For Bernadette, who was only Sequence 3, just dealing with the Sequence 1 Augustus family was daunting enough, not to mention the involvement of the Primordial Demoness and Adam.
This was definitely not something a Sequence 3 could change, nor was it something a Sequence 3 should even get involved in.
Lynn's purpose was to help Bernadette recognize the danger early and to see if he could capture some touching moments between father and daughter to send to Roselle later.
On this note, it's worth mentioning that in his decision to fully embrace the role of a Sage from the knowledge aspect, Lynn had developed some peculiar skills, such as recording events in a holographic format and playing them back for others.
This skill might not be particularly useful to other Sages and could be risky and cumbersome to use, as it required direct interaction with the information-based world. But for Lynn, this skill was extremely valuable.
As for the danger... it was laughable. For Lynn, interacting with information was like returning to his happy place, not only not dangerous but very much like a fish in water.
"Lord Angel of Secrets, what do you want me to do?" Bernadette finally finished processing the information and looked up at Lynn, asking the same question again.
"Have you truly decided to get involved in this matter? What if I told you that your only allies might be another angel and a Sequence 6?" Lynn asked with a smile. The angel referred to Medici, and the Sequence 6 was Klein, who would later advance to Faceless.
"This is already better than I expected..." Bernadette exhaled slightly and said, "Even if I were alone, I would still try to stop this from happening."
"I absolutely cannot watch my father lose his hope of resurrection."
