It had been three days since Gianna's escapade to Xavier's office and surprisingly she hadn't heard anything from him yet. Her parents hadn't brought any news hinting at the fact that the wedding had been canceled and it had her on edge. For starters, if any one found out she had tried to sabotage the wedding she was toast. Her mother was personally going to wring her neck. It hadn't been obvious to her at first because she had attended lectures during those three days but now that she thought of it, she was starting to get worried. She didn't know if Xavier had been able to convince his side of the family to call off the marriage. Then again his evident surprise when she told about the marriage meant he hadn't been informed and it'd obviously be suspicious if he asked his grandfather to break the alliance when he hadn't even been told right? Gianna sighed, maybe it had been impulsive of her to approach Xavier in the first place. "Gia," she heard her name, snapping her out of her thoughts. "Mom," she stood up from the sofa, looking at the woman who sometimes seemed like a total stranger to her. It was odd really, she remembered being dotted on by this same woman as a child and yet it almost felt as if they were now getting to know each other every time they spoke. She sat and patted the space next to her and Gianna stared incredulously at her mother. "What are you so afraid of Gia. I don't bite and there's certainly nothing wrong with me wanting to spend time with my daughter or is there?" her light blue eyes did part of the querying, reminding her of another pair of blue eyes but much more deeper, clearer and... and beautiful. She shook her head, pushing away those thoughts. She hesitantly sat beside her mom creating a little space between them to assure herself of her own safety. Her mother's eyes narrowed but she didn't say anything. "I can't believe you're going to get married soon. I remember the day you were born and now you're all grown up," her mom said, emotion glistening in her eyes as she affectionately brushed the hairs away from her face. If what her mother said didn't upset her so much she would have realized that this was probably the first time her mom was showing her this much attention. Gianna couldn't believe her mother was having this conversation with her right now. The woman seemed to have forgotten she wasn't even out of school yet, discussing about her marriage as if it was the most natural thing to do. "Aren't you happy, darling?" it was a trick question. She knew that because the way her mother's eyes twinkled with mirth as she looked at her confirmed it all. "Am I supposed to be?" Gianna's words made her mother stop and stare at her. "And what is that supposed to mean," a frown made it's way to her perfect almost flawless face, raising her eyebrows in question. "It means however you understand it. Mother," she said with a straightforward face, looking into her mother's eyes without so much as flinching. "You insolent brat. How dare you," she got up from the couch with an exasperated look, glaring down at her daughter. "I'm sorry mother," it was of no use trying to argue. She knew her mother was going to deem it as an insult anyway. "I didn't mean to upset you," she added getting up from the couch to not seem disrespectful; as it is she was already an insolent brat in her mother's eyes. She didn't want the list to keep compounding. "Hmph," she harrumphed. I'm just trying to spend some time with my daughter and this is what I get? You know what forget about it. Whether you agree with this marriage or not it's still going to come on anyway," and with that the woman she called mother walked away in elegant strides, an air of pride surrounding her whole existence. Gianna took in a deep breath to stabilize her breathing, her tears threatening to fall. She plumped back onto the couch, staring at nowhere in particular as she tried to control her emotions. Her only way out at this moment was Xavier. If he refused the marriage would her parents find another prospect? She shuddered, dreading the thoughts of them setting her up with some weird guy. Maybe marrying Xavier wouldn't be so bad after all he didn't seem interested in marriage either. They could get married without having to mind each other's business. Gia jumped out of the couch at her new found idea reeling at the genius plan she had just come up with. Where was her phone. She needed to talk to Xavier. ASAP!
