Chapter 7 This is Our Home

"Pfft."

Seeing this scene, Ning Ruixi couldn't help but burst into laughter.

However, as her laughter subsided, she realized something was off. She looked up, met the man's sharp eyes, and covered her mouth with her uninjured hand while shaking her head repeatedly in apology, "Sorry, sorry, I didn't mean it."

It was just... too funny!

It was the first time she had seen a man who, despite his handsome looks, gave off the fierce vibe of a mafia boss. He hadn't done anything, yet he managed to make a child cry, which was truly...

But as she met the man's increasingly darkening countenance, she made a tremendous effort to suppress her laughter, her face turning beet red as she struggled not to snicker. The liveliness in her vibrant face, a stark contrast to her previous paleness and the man's impression of her as weak, was adding a few lively colors.

The man still said nothing, but after giving her a glance, he continued pushing the wheelchair forward.

"According to the X-ray, the patient's head wasn't injured, and there is no intracranial hemorrhage, so we can rule out trauma-induced amnesia. So..."

Su Weihan said, frowning, as he held the freshly taken X-ray.

Gao Han's brows were furrowed in silence, and it took a long while before he stood up, "Okay, I've got it, thank you, doctor."

Taking the envelope with the X-rays out of the doctor's office, Gao Han stood at the door, reflecting on the recent events; despite his extraordinary endurance, he couldn't help but let out a soft sigh.

But after his sigh, he resolutely puffed his chest and raised his head again.

"This is our home."

Gao Han pushed the door open, standing at the entrance and speaking to the petite woman behind him.

Ning Ruixi was somewhat dazed. The house wasn't particularly large; it was more humble than the upscale bachelor apartments she was accustomed to. Still, at that moment her heart started beating wildly!

Home!

Indeed, it was that man's words that struck the deepest chord hidden in her heart!

"The decoration of the house..."

When she stepped into the two-bedroom apartment, Ning Ruixi realized it was somewhat different from what she had imagined.

The home she had dreamed of was warm and lovely, but this place, with its white walls and simple furniture, even the sofa was the most austere leather-made one.

If it weren't for the man named Gao Han saying so, she would have never thought this was a newlywed couple's home. Even the "double happiness" character stuck on the door emitted a feeble paleness.

As for living accommodations, Gao Han wasn't particularly demanding. He mostly spent his time in the military base, and a significant portion of that was on missions. During missions, a flat surface would often suffice as a bed for sleep.

His body, long accustomed to harsh conditions, couldn't find a single flaw with the simple decor in their newlywed accommodations.

However, when he saw a flash of surprise cross his little wife's face, he still felt a slight tinge of bitterness in his heart. After some thought, he took the initiative to ask, "What's the matter?"

Ning Ruixi wouldn't reveal her true feelings, instead she slowly walked around the room, observing the surrounding environment. Gradually, the sense of loss in her heart became more pronounced.

Watching her little head droop dejectedly, filled with disappointment, Gao Han was perplexed. He couldn't understand why she would react like this upon seeing their home; weren't things fine when they got married? Having lived here for so long, she had never uttered a single word of complaint, had she?

Just as Ning Ruixi turned around, she nearly bumped into the man's solid chest. Meeting his deep eyes, Ning Ruixi felt as if she could see little dots of confusion dancing within them.

"That…"

Ning Ruixi was naturally business-savvy and renowned as a business queen, but it's been said that highly intelligent people often lack emotional intelligence. This was evident from her history of dating three consecutive scoundrels.

She had considered marriage, but waking up to suddenly find herself with a husband, as was now the case, was a bit too intense for her.

Once she knew she had become a person with the same name as before, Ning Ruixi had abandoned any hope of returning to her previous life, opting instead to embrace a completely new life and face new challenges.

"That…" Her eyes darted around, as Ning Ruixi struggled to steady herself, "If it's possible, may I change the decoration style of our home?"

Gao Han looked at her puzzledly, unsure of what his little wife was thinking. As for decor, he didn't understand nor care much about it, "Okay."

Yet, the words "our home" seemed to raise the temperature of his face a few degrees.

Upon hearing this response, Ning Ruixi's spirits soared. Her already large eyes curved into beautiful crescents, sparkling brightly, which again caught Gao Han off guard.

He should have been accustomed to his little wife's timidity and dullness, yet he never expected to see such enchanting allure from her. More importantly, as he beheld her charming smile, his icy heart unexpectedly quivered.

Perhaps the earlier conversation had a soothing effect, or for some other reason, the atmosphere between them softened considerably in the time that followed. Although they were still mostly silent, the silence no longer felt awkward.

Ning Ruixi was now living by the principle of "When in Rome, do as the Romans do." After finding out she was the newlywed wife of the man named Gao Han, she started changing herself to adapt to these new surroundings.

After completing her tour of all the rooms, Ning Ruixi was as relaxed as if she were in her own upscale bachelor pad, bouncing onto the sofa with bright eyes, "That..."

After hesitating, Ning Ruixi finally mustered the courage to glance at the man with the expressionless face, "Husband, let's have a chat!"

Gao Han's usually stoic face finally cracked. The word "husband" pierced his heart like an arrow unexpectedly, burning hot. At that moment, he realized that since they had married, his little wife had never called him this way. Recalling the scene of being caught in the act of adultery, his dark eyes turned somber.

So that was what it was all about...

The man's lack of response caused Ning Ruixi to blush involuntarily, she pouted and turned her face away, refusing to meet his gaze, then she puffed her cheeks and said, "I don't remember what happened before. I'm not sure how I used to address you, so if you're uncomfortable with me calling you 'husband,' I can change it to something else."
