Chapter 7: Colorless Light Particles_2

After observing and waiting for over ten minutes, Lu Yuanming confirmed that these light particles were neither Spectres nor Curses, and they seemed to pose no harm to him. Only then did he cautiously approach the light particles with his fingertips, and gently touched them.

There was no pain or corrosion. Upon touching the particles with his finger, Lu Yuanming felt a sensation similar to touching a bubble or a thin film of plastic, and the Colorless Light Particles remained intact, allowing his finger to touch them, then let his palm grasp and squeeze them.

Lu Yuanming carefully fiddled with and studied the light particles, looked at them for a long time, and still couldn't figure out what they were. He even put one in his mouth to chew, but the light particle remained unchanged in shape. What seemed very fragile was actually incredibly resilient; these definitely were not the White Light Particles that appeared after killing monsters!

After toying with it for a while, Lu Yuanming could only give up. He was both thirsty and hungry, and didn't have much energy to explore this sudden phenomenon.

"I'm so thirsty. I wish I could have a big bowl of covered-bowl tea or a whole bucket of mineral water."

Lu Yuanming was playing with the Colorless Light Particles in his hand. He was lying down on the ground at that time, silently waiting for seventy-two hours to pass. He decided he would leave the building to explore only after he could traverse, even though this meant he would have to continue enduring hunger and thirst. So he mumbled to himself, while thinking of the food and drink he had in the past.

Then at that moment, something heavy suddenly fell into his hand, and he felt a burning pain as if scalded, which frightened him into tossing it immediately. His entire body rolled away a distance of about two meters.

He thought these Colorless Light Particles had finally harmed him, but when he looked back at the spot he was at, he was completely stunned.

Where he had just been lying, there was now a big bucket of mineral water and a bowl of covered-bowl tea on the ground. The covered-bowl tea had spilled over, with both tea leaves and boiling water on the floor; it was the boiling water that had scalded him.

"?"

Lu Yuanming was filled with question marks. He looked around in every direction, then focused his gaze back on the Colorless Light Particles.

One, two, three...ten, a total of ten Colorless Light Particles were there, one less than before—the same one that Lu Yuanming had been playing with!

Lu Yuanming had a guess in his mind. He hurried to the bucket of mineral water, first closely examining the color and texture of the water, shaking it, opening the lid to smell it, and then dabbing a little on his finger to taste it. Hmm, the color of the water, the smell of the water, the taste of the water, it definitely was water...

At that moment, Lu Yuanming didn't bother to delve any deeper and began to gulp down the mineral water. He didn't stop until his belly swelled up. Then he lay next to the bucket of water, full of happy sighs of contentment.

After two or three minutes, Lu Yuanming carefully pinched another Colorless Light Particle, pressed it to the floor, and imagined in his head white rice, spicy diced chicken, hot pot, sweet and sour ribs, roast pork, chopped pepper fish head... and other delicious food.

Immediately afterward, as if by magic, there truly appeared a large bowl of white rice, a pot of hot pot cooking meat and vegetables, a plate of sweet and sour ribs, half a plate of roast pork... half a plate?

Lu Yuanming immediately began to wolf down his meal, pondering over the half-eaten dish of roast white as he ate.

"A Colorless Light Particle can materialize something based on what you think of, but this manifestation isn't limitless—it's not that you can materialize as much as you want. There's some sort of equivalent exchange principle at work here. The exact formula for the exchange still needs to be tested. Moreover, the origin of these Colorless Light Particles is a mystery; they seem to have come from nowhere, yet they hover around me. There must be some connection to me, but I haven't done anything..."

Lu Yuanming thought this through carefully; he could confirm that the Colorless Light Particles had indeed appeared out of nowhere. During that time, he hadn't done anything, hadn't killed any monsters, nor had he made any changes.

"...Perhaps it's a boon from a higher being, like a Deity, who saw that I was about to starve to death? No, maybe it's 'paper money' burnt for the living by the living."

After Lu Yuanming had nearly finished all his food, his stomach was completely full. He laid on the ground, lounging lazily, and closely examined the remaining nine Colorless Light Particles. He joked and pondered, but after saying this, he suddenly froze.

As a native of Chongqing from Country Z, he had been taken by his parents to burn 'paper money' ever since he was little, whether it was during Qingming Festival, ancestral worship days, or the Spring Festival—in total, at least two or three times a year. He vaguely remembered his parents saying that 'paper money' was the food for ancestors, as it belonged to their spiritual legacy.

"That's it! Calculating the time, the Spring Festival would be in these couple of days. My parents must be burning 'paper money,' and surely they would be mentioning me. Although I'm now dead, my spirit has crossed time and space, but weren't the ancestors also people from the past? In other words... could these Colorless Light Particles be that spiritual legacy? Or something akin to the belief described in novels?"

Lu Yuanming's eyes shone brightly as he looked at the remaining nine Colorless Light Particles. He pinched one and this time, instead of thinking about food or anything of the sort, he tried to conjure up something different, experimenting with his sudden thought.

Slowly, the Colorless Light Particle disappeared, and in Lu Yuanming's hand laid a translucent bullet!

Lu Yuanming immediately took out his handgun, then stuffed the bullet into the magazine, restored the magazine to its place, and aimed the gun forward. However, he hesitated to pull the trigger, partly due to the fear of turning hope into disappointment, and partly because he feared the gunshot might attract monsters.

Just as Lu Yuanming hesitated, screams suddenly came from the streets outside the building—childish shrieks of terror!

Without hesitation, Lu Yuanming ran towards the second-floor corridor, and through a collapsed section of the corridor wall, he spied on the street. Seconds later, he saw humans.

Two adults, five children—they were running down the street, and behind them, three spectre-hounds were in mad pursuit. One of the girls looked to be about seven or eight years old but quite chubby. As she ran, she stumbled and fell, while the others continued to dash forward. Then, in Lu Yuanming's line of sight, the plump child was pinned to the ground by the powerful paws of a spectre-hound and its ferocious maw voraciously tore at her.

It only took a moment before all that remained in the maw of the spectre-hound was a mass of torn flesh and blood...

Lu Yuanming's pupils constricted, and he clamped his hand over his mouth. At the same time, the remaining six people ran directly into the building he was in, charging into the ground floor. The two other spectre-hounds that had yet to secure their prey also burst into the building!
