Modified: Chapter 8: Infinite Sound

Yao Yan was carried back to the refuge by Wu De.

This was an underground ruin, and it had taken nearly a year to clean it out completely. The effort cost nearly a hundred survivors their lives, but now it served as the last refuge for those who remained.

Before this, they had four other refuges, but all of them were ultimately destroyed, with countless casualties. No one knew how long this refuge would hold.

The return of the two did not stir much commotion. At the moment, the refuge housed more than two thousand survivors. Every survivor had to work—whether man or woman, young or old, even the weak or disabled. Everyone was required to contribute, whether through patrolling, defense, scavenging the ruins, or planting crops. Here, there was no soil for any parasitic class to thrive.
