Watching the Poet on the screen, Sun Jack couldn't help but feel a headache coming on.
Based on his words just now, it could be pretty much confirmed that this guy had completely forgotten about this side of things, turning his attention to his own affairs.
He didn't even care whether his own side had won or if they had died; but then again, he couldn't be blamed, as he had always known this guy was a few strings short of a full guitar.
Understanding is one thing, but right now, whether it was the band, or the bassist's relationship problems, he really didn't want to know.
"What do you know! Our love is true!" Watching the bassist forcefully push the Poet away and passionately start to play his instrument to express his feelings with music.
"Damn it, figures that anyone who'd form a band with a Poet is no ordinary person..."
Sun Jack found that the Poet really knew how to live; no matter the situation, he could always find something of interest.
He scratched his head and spoke to Tapai, "Let him be. Send him a message. If he wants to come back, let him come back; if not, let him be. That guy is tough to kill anyway; he's not going to die."
As this little episode passed, Sun Jack deleted the deeply accompanying Poet from the screen and focused his attention on more pressing matters.
Through his own network of intelligence, Sun Jack quickly gathered information about the past grudges between TT and DF23, two monopolistic corporations.
After spending a few hours to get a general idea, Sun Jack finally understood that the grudges between these two had begun when they were still small companies of just a few hundred people.
Initially, a technical director from TT used the exhaust pipe of DF23's boss's antique luxury car as a masturbatory aid, which prompted the boss of DF23 to hire a mercenary to take care of this deviant killer technician, and the conflict between the two companies escalated from there.
As they grew larger, the rivalry only intensified, and it became part of their corporate culture to infiltrate one another's security and assassinate key personnel.
Sun Jack also realized why, when he was battling FFP, neither of these two corporations had shown much face; they had been busy with their own conflict.
Previously, when FFP was around, the three-company balance was maintained, but after FFP was replaced by him, their rivalry further intensified.
As Sun Jack was analyzing the century-old grudge between the two corporations, an unexpected piece of good news was delivered by Tapai. "Because their struggle is getting more intense, a lot of capital is fleeing, and most of it is coming our way. Should we accept it?"
"Holy smokes, of course we accept it. Is this manna from heaven? Am I really so lucky to stumble upon this?" At first, Sun Jack was very surprised, but after some thought, it didn't seem all that surprising. It was a normal market principle.
Although the struggle between the two corporations had nothing to do with him, its ripple effect was indeed intimately connected to everyone else. It seemed he had to do something.
Looking at the data in front of him, Sun Jack tapped his fingers quickly on the desk before directly contacting Hanks, "Spread our intelligence network over there, have your people explore every bit of news possible, and prepare for any and all contingency plans."
Even though Sun Jack still had not decided to enter the fray, he felt a certain premonition that their struggle would inadvertently affect many things.
Time passed bit by bit, and the struggle between the two sides grew larger, to the point where the radioactive dust from a nuclear war even drifted into Metropolis.
Conversely, in the combat zones, both capital and people were gathering towards the Utopia Federation. Although Sun Jack had done nothing, his assets were increasing rapidly, growing even faster than the FFP, which was controlled by Lan Meng.
"Jack, at this rate, even if you do nothing, you could swallow both of them up and become the world's largest capitalist," Tapai said, following behind Sun Jack beside a tombstone.
Sun Jack placed three sticks of incense on the tombstone in front of him, which was for Father Sun Jieke, who had died in Detroit. "Let's leave it to fate. It's best to go with the flow. Our Federation has just been established; what we need is to recuperate. Unless there is a necessary reason, let's try not to get involved as much as possible."
With that, Sun Jack raised his head to look at the virtual tombstone next to him, where many people were mourning their loved ones.
Though everyone's eyes were filled with sorrow, it was possible to see a tranquility that wasn't there before—a tranquility that Metropolis had never had.
He walked out onto the neon-lit streets. Though it looked almost identical to the old Metropolis, things had changed.
Gone were the homeless and the dead bodies littering the corners, and the streets no longer had mercenaries dressed in various combat prosthetics bodies ready to do anything for money.
He knew it wasn't perfect yet, but it was already so much better than before; at least it proved that his efforts in the past were worthwhile.
As Sun Jack strolled in the rain, feeling the inner peace of the moment, the Labor Bureau sent a message, "The 8-hour workday has been abolished; all of Metropolis now enters a 7-hour workday."
The streets were immediately filled with cheering crowds. Joy was sincerely etched on everyone's faces.
Seeing this, Sun Jack silently nodded and then contacted the Priest directly, "We can begin the second phase now."
Various chips related to Liberation Theology and different political chips began to be distributed for free. It wasn't compulsory, but if someone wanted to learn, all knowledge about class struggle was freely available for download on the net.
Although it would take time for the next generation to grow up, this didn't mean Sun Jack was doing nothing.
Perhaps this method wasn't the best or the most effective, but Sun Jack was willing to continually try and find the best solution.
And just then, an old man walked by. When he saw Sun Jack, he was so excited that he was about to kneel down, but Sun Jack quickly held him up with a hand, half-jokingly saying, "Don't kneel, never kneel. If you do, it means all my past efforts were in vain."
After sending the old man on his way, Sun Jack continued to walk. Just a few steps later, he received two communications, one from TT and one from DF23.
"Damn," Sun Jack cursed softly under his breath. As expected, even if he did nothing, issues would still find their way to him. "Let's go, back to it and see what these two are up to."
Most likely, the two sides were trying to entice him over, now it was just a matter of seeing what they had to offer.
However, just as Sun Jack was about to crouch down to enter the Hover Car, he suddenly paused; he thought he smelled blood.
