Although "a trillion" sounds like a massive number, for Gibson, it doesn't fully represent the vast range of resources and connections he possesses.
"You owe so much money, not because you're poor, but it shows your ability and guts. Ordinary people don't get the chance to owe that much!"
"I really don't get you, how can you be so ordinary yet so confident. If I had even one percent of your confidence, I would have gotten my PhD by now!" Gabrielle huffed in dissatisfaction.
Gibson, holding groceries, headed into the kitchen, leaving behind a remark, "No, you wouldn't get a PhD, not because of a lack of confidence, but because you're just not smart enough."
"Nonsense!" Gabrielle retorted.
But Gibson didn't want to waste time arguing; he was more concerned about eating. He wasn't picky about most things, but he had a particular fondness for food.
In a human life, there are about 30,000 days, half of which are nights, and then subtracting the time wasted on activities like being busy or going to the bathroom, there really isn't much time left to enjoy good food.
As Gibson walked into the kitchen, Gabrielle continued to complain.
"I've told you before not to argue with him. You can't outtalk him, can't beat him, and in the end, you just end up angry yourself. What a waste!" Sonia shook her head helplessly.
"Hmph! And to think you're not even worried when you hear about this guy sneaking off with some beauty. Makes sense, though. Who would want a guy like that for free? Plus, he's in so much debt, only someone crazy would like him!" Gabrielle scoffed.
Just then, the doorbell rang.
"Who is it?!" Gabrielle asked hurriedly as she sipped her noodles.
She got up and walked towards the doorway, while Sonia continued to focus on the TV news about local affairs in Starfall City.
The news mentioned that redeveloping the North District would require the support of major businesses. Although it's only ten kilometers straight from the city center, a mountain lies in between. Flattening the mountain would create a more direct connection.
Many big shots had lost faith in the North District due to previous failures. There had been big plans to develop it, but many projects were abandoned midway due to sudden policy changes. Now, the government suddenly proposed to focus on developing the North District again, which made Sonia think deeply.
The future of Wind Group was in her hands. The Davis family had blocked all pharmaceutical channels, and no one in Starfall City dared to do business with her. Finding other economic sources might help her get through tough times.
But she wasn't sure if the government was truly committed to developing the North District this time or if it would end up being another empty promise like before. If it really happened, she could take advantage of the low land prices and buy a few plots, waiting for their value to increase.
However, if it was another hollow promise, it wouldn't be so easy for her to get out this time.
"Can we really trust this big shot?" Sonia wondered aloud as she watched the TV, which clearly stated that an important figure planned to focus on developing the North District, aiming to create a new economic zone. If successful, it would reshape the entire economic structure of Starfall City.
Gabrielle had just opened the door, expecting maybe the property manager, but she froze when she saw who it was.
"Hello, I'm looking for Gibson! Is he here? I followed him all the way!" The visitor was none other than Phoebe!
She was dressed in a preppy style, her hair tied back in a ponytail with a black bow on top, radiating youth. She wore a skirt from Balenciaga, looking no older than her early twenties, with a lively style.
"You're looking for him?" Seeing this beautiful woman, Gabrielle couldn't help but think, "Talk about a rose in a dung pile."
She wondered if this girl had followed him to this villa, thinking it belonged to him. It had to be!
"Yeah, is he not here?" Phoebe asked with a smile.
Gabrielle awkwardly grinned, "He's here... but, just so you know, this house isn't his."
"I know! I told him he could stay at my place, who would refuse that!"
"And you know he owes a lot of money, right? Like, a lot."
"Yeah, I know, just some debts, right? I could help him pay them off!"
Gabrielle was flabbergasted. Are there really women like this?
"No, seriously, what do you see in him? He's... not worthy of you!" Gabrielle said helplessly.
Phoebe just smiled sweetly, "He's handsome!"
Seeing that Phoebe was beyond persuasion, Gabrielle gave up trying to argue and waved her inside to call Gibson.
Two minutes later, Gibson came out, wiping his hands and still wearing an apron.
"What are you doing here again?! I told you, don't come over if there's nothing important, and definitely don't if there is!" Gibson said, clearly annoyed.
Phoebe just smiled at the door, "I missed you, that's all!"
This made Sonia and Gabrielle almost gag. These days, it's rare to find someone both so pretty and so love-struck.
After Gibson closed the door and went out, Gabrielle sternly said, "Your rival in love is here, and you're still eating!"
"What rival? I have nothing to do with him! He can see whoever he wants, I couldn't care less!" Sonia said, continuing to eat her noodles.
"Are you crazy? If he finds another woman, do you think he'll still pay back the Juarez family?" Gabrielle scoffed.
"What are you talking about? It's not like I like him or anything! Do you really think I'm some teenage girl who falls for bad boys? I'm more worried about finding out who this big shot is!"
Outside, Gibson asked, "What do you want?"
"Ah, I just missed you!" Phoebe said as she moved closer, making sure Sonia and the others could hear.
Her words and actions were clearly for show. Gibson saw right through her little game. Phoebe wouldn't come all this way just because she missed him; there had to be something else.
"Let's stick to business, stop trying to seduce me!" Gibson sighed resignedly.
