Chapter 38

- I have an idea, to attack the camp of the locals....

Alexander didn't let him finish.

- It's a very stupid idea. Why would we do that?

The deputy general was even taken aback. Making a plan of conversation, he did not doubt for a second that his opponents were as interested in the attack as he was. After all, it was the fact that they drank people's blood that gave them their current position. Gennadyevich in no way assumed that they would be against strengthening their position.

- Well, Sashenka (Alexander), the blood of people.

- So what? - Alexander looked sincerely incomprehensible, what was this all about.

"The bastard is pretending," thought the deputy, but he said not that at all.

- There are weapons, clothes, supplies. All this people need very much, - having entered on the favorite theme of public good, Alexey Gennadyevich felt much more confident and for a couple more minutes tried to convince his interlocutors of the necessity to attack, but everything was in vain.

The upstarts were categorically against the attack and did not even give him a weapon, saying in the end that he was engaged in nonsense and it would be better to put his energies into something more useful. In a rage he went to his hut. When Gennadyevich disappeared quite far away and the noise of his footsteps ceased to be heard, the silence was broken by Eugene.

- And what was that?

- He's up to something again, the old gelding. If he tried to convince us so much, it means he needs it very much, - Gennady, who knew the chief better than anyone else present, said it quite authoritatively, - He licked you so much Sasha, and never even once raised his voice. He's definitely up to something.

- Well, we will definitely not participate in it.

Frankly speaking, Alexander considered even the discussion of such an idea to be a complete folly.

- And the others?

- What about the others?

- The other people in the camp? Will they be involved in this?

Alexander wondered. He knew that humans were inherently good creatures, of course, but he had little faith in their rationality. On the other hand, such an attack would be suicidal. Vampires have much simpler ways of doing it. A walk in the sun, for instance.

- I don't think anyone would go for that kind of adventure. I mean, look at it this way. Half of the people here are former vacationers, family men, they won't attack. The other half are employees of our firm, and at least half of them will send Gennadyevich's plans to the garden. Of the quarter that will support him, God willing, fifty people will be able to take part in the attack naked against warriors in armor. Fifty against 500. He wasn't an idiot to dare to attack at this rate.

Everyone agreed with the arguments and went about their business. Alexander himself went behind the track, to hunt some more and to start making weapons at last. Konstantin followed his example. The girls and Gennady began to enlarge and improve the dugout. Eugene went around the camp to offer his help if anyone needed labor. Semyon continued his experiments with cones. Oleg was busy with his guards. Sergei, on the other hand, went scouting, not trusting the scouts sent before them.

The poleaxe turned out to be a real eye-catcher. The handle was no more than forty centimeters long and ended with a fifteen centimeter diameter pommel, crowned by a ten centimeter spike. The pommel consisted of exactly six edges, one centimeter thick, arranged symmetrically with respect to each other.

The metal was made as strong as possible. Alexander spent less than an hour to make this, as he thought, masterpiece. However, in addition to yesterday's prey, he had to get a moose and several hares. At such a rate, all game could soon disappear in the surroundings of their camp. But the result, he felt, was worth it.

The full force of the blow easily felled the tree, knocking huge chunks out of the trunk. The granite boulder also shattered into small stones. And the poleaxe looked as good as new. Now it was safe to return to camp.

The scouts sent to the military camp found it in the same place. For some unknown reason, the vanguard of the Orod army had not moved. But the scouts sent to the road brought more interesting news.
