Chapter 4: Hello, Plumber

With the blessing of the system, even just learning new skills is enough to fill anyone with anticipation for the future.

The future is promising!

With a sigh of emotion, Li Yi'an exited the system, and the woman's voice followed.

"Thank God you escaped. If it weren't for you escaping from France, how could I have had this perfume?"

Looking at the man in front of her, Stanislava, who seemed very polite on the surface, had a slight change in her gaze. Her pretty face became somewhat stiff, and even her smile seemed somewhat unnatural.

"He came from France?"

Is that possible?

Who can come from France now?

Spies!

As this thought popped into Stanislava's mind, her heart began to pound wildly.

"Well, would you like some coffee? I still have some."

In a state of nervousness, Stanislava got up and went to the kitchen. When she reached the kitchen, already panicking, she took a few deep breaths.

"What to do, what to do? He, he's a spy, a spy... I should call the police, but the phone... the phone is in the living room!"

Walking back and forth in the kitchen, just as Stanislava stood hesitating at the window, considering whether to jump out and escape, she saw the neighbor opposite preparing dinner.

The open window of the neighbor's house brightened her eyes, and she quickly picked up a pen and notepad from the kitchen cabinet, wrote a sentence on the paper, put it in a small glass bottle, and threw it over.

The sudden smashing of the glass bottle made the woman who was preparing dinner stunned. When she turned her head, she saw Stanislava poking half of her body out of the window. She nervously stretched out her hand to gesture something.

...

In no time, the strong aroma of coffee permeated the room.

"Thank you."

Li Yi'an sincerely thanked her.

The woman handed him one of the cups of coffee, which Li Yi'an accepted and took a sip. It was very bitter. He couldn't help but frown, just about to complain about how bitter the coffee was when the woman spoke up.

"I'm sorry, but we've run out of sugar."

She smiled apologetically, but her heart was in knots.

"Black coffee is fine. It tastes good, and besides, I haven't had coffee in a long time. You know, after the war broke out, coffee became very scarce in France."

Li Yi'an didn't notice the woman's strangeness at all. He just endured the bitter taste, pretending to enjoy it, and finished the cup of black coffee. In the meantime, he chatted with the woman for a few moments.

From the woman, he learned that her husband was a senior employee of the North Borneo Company. She only knew that he had resisted the Japanese with the army after the outbreak of the war, and then there was no news.

"He should be fine. Sometimes, no news is not necessarily bad news."

Li Yi'an said some comforting words, and the woman shook her head.

"I hope so! Anyway, let's not talk about that. What are your plans next?"

The woman changed the subject, and after putting down the cup in his hand, Li Yi'an pondered for a moment before saying, "Ma'am, where can I rent a house?"

"Rent a house?"

The woman glanced at him and then at her watch. Why haven't the police come yet?

At this moment, the sound of knocking on the door came.

The knocking made the woman's heart skip a beat.

They're here, the police are finally here!

Almost revealing a smile, she hurriedly asked, "Who is it?"

"Madam, I'm the plumber, Hack. They downstairs said your bathroom is leaking, so I came to check."

A plumber?

When the woman got up to open the door, Li Yi'an didn't sense anything unusual.

As the door opened, two men dressed as workers walked in. Whether it was an illusion or not, Li Yi'an noticed that they seemed to hesitate for a moment when they saw him.

Trouble in front of the widow's door?

Just as he thought of this, he didn't notice the two men, who seemed to be plumbers, quietly moving apart and then suddenly pouncing on him.

In the moment of being tackled, Li Yi'an hastily shouted, "Help, someone is robbing..."

...

A spy?

Captain Adam looked at the man shackled there and turned his head to ask, "Have you ever seen Germans sending Asians to England as spies?"

As a military officer in the counter-espionage department, Adam was simply at a loss for words for these policemen.

They always manage to catch "spies," but in reality, they have never caught any spies.

"Sir, I'm not sure, but the lady reported him as suspicious through the neighbor. She said he's a spy who came from France. So, I called you guys," the officer replied directly.

"Came from France?"

Captain Adam asked in confusion.

"Does he have any identification?"

"No identification at all."

"Why was he at that lady's house?"

Captain Adam looked at him, and without even asking, knew why because he was a young and handsome man, and such men would be invited by many ladies.

...

The strong stench continued to permeate the hood, how many people have worn this black hood? In the moment of being put on the hood, Li Yi'an almost didn't choke. But now, he has adapted.

From being arrested to being taken onto the car, and now...

With his hands tied behind his back, sitting on a chair, all Li Yi'an had in his mind was one thought.

Where is this place?

In confusion, Li Yi'an has already identified himself as the unluckiest time traveler in history.

Came from France.

Unknown identity!

Spy!

These three words put together result in only one outcome, a quick second crossing.

Even without going to court.

Oh God, it looks like he's really going to cross again.

What to do now?

At this moment, with the sound of footsteps, the hood was suddenly taken off, and as he squinted to adjust to the light, Li Yi'an also understood his situation.

In front of him was a table, behind which sat two British guys, one with a mustache, both wearing military uniforms.

All military!

With a thud, Li Yi'an's heart sank, and having watched many World War II movies and novels, he immediately understood his situation.

British soldiers were interrogating him, which means they were treating him as a spy. A spy would definitely be sent to the gallows, with no chance of escape!

They might not even need to go to court.

God, it looks like he's really going to cross again.

What now?

At this moment, accompanying the sound of footsteps, the hood was suddenly removed, and as he squinted to adjust to the light, Li Yi'an also understood his situation.

In front of him was a table, behind which sat two British guys, one with a mustache, both wearing military uniforms.

All military!

Li Yi'an's heart thumped, having watched many World War II movies and read many novels, he immediately understood his situation.

The British soldiers were interrogating him, indicating that they were treating him as a spy. A spy would definitely be sent to the gallows, with no chance of escape!

They wouldn't even need to go to court.

Oh my God, it looks like I'm really going to time travel again.

What to do now?

At this moment, Eight-Ball Hu spoke up.

"Alright, sir, do you have anything to say?"

"What? I don't understand what you're saying."

Despite beads of sweat forming on his back, Li Yi'an still managed to calm himself down and quickly activated his "Psychology" skill. This skill was all about observing and analyzing people's behavior and thoughts, helping oneself to make money in transactions.

With this skill being at Level 1, just the basics, its capabilities were limited, but it still yielded an answer — the other party was suspicious of him.

"Speak up, what is the purpose of the Germans sending you here?"

Eight-Ball Hu asked.

Facing his question, Li Yi'an replied.

"Sir, I am Chinese, China is a member of the Allies, why would I help the Germans?"

When faced with doubt, the best approach is to counter-question, which can effectively shake the other party's viewpoint.

Even though it was just an entry-level skill in psychology, there was still something to it.

Actually, Captain Adam didn't believe for a moment that this guy was sent by the Germans.

But he was interested in how he managed to escape from France.

Li Yi'an continued to counter-question.

"Sir, besides, Chinese people look completely different from Europeans. It's easy to attract attention on the streets of London. If you were German, would you send an Oriental to England as a spy?"

"It's indeed unlikely, but who knows?"

Captain Adam smiled and said.

"Otherwise, let's start by hearing about your experience of escaping to England."
