The Beautifully Tragic: A Steddie Romance

The line rings as Steve holds the phone impatiently. "Come on Hopper, answer your damn phone." He finally hears the line pick up and a gruff, sleepy sounding voice. "This is Hopper. What do you need?" Steve clears his throat before replying. "Hopper do you remember where you found Will? Well, apparently the leader of that place has been killing people, and someone very important to me is being accused of the murders. We need your help proving his innocence. You're the only one who can really help us, the only one who knows anything about what we've seen and are dealing with. Please help us." Steve hears Hopper sigh on the other end of the line. "Fine I'll help. Part of my job is to serve and protect after all. Meet me at the station so we can figure out how we're going to do this. Be there in an hour. I wouldn't recommend bringing your friend, especially if your friend is who I think he is." With that, Hopper hangs up the phone. Steve turns to Eddie, who's sitting there, concern in his large brown eyes. Steve is struck by how much Eddie's eyes look like the eyes of a baby cow. "Is he going to help?" Eddie asks anxiously. Steve walks over and sits by Eddie on the bed. "He's going to help. We will get your life back, Eddie. We'll do it together." He linked his pinkie with Eddie's and leans in for a kiss. "I've got to meet Hopper at the station in an hour. I better get going so I'm not late. You'll be ok here alone won't you? Just keep the door locked and there's plenty of food here. I'll be back as soon as I can. I love you, Eddie." Steve starts walking to the door when he hears Eddie reply, "I love you too big boy. Now get out there and fight for my justice." Steve smiles and pushes the door open, getting into his car, he heads to the station. Eddie locks the door and leans against it. He hopes this Hopper can actually prove his innocence. He didn't want to make Steve spend his life with someone who has to stay hidden like a rat or something. Steve deserved better. If Eddie couldn't give him that, he would have no choice but to walk away. Steve would be hurt at first, but it would be better for him. Eddie hoped that wasn't a choice he would have to make. He needed this to work. "Please let this work. Please. God or whatever is out there, just cut me this break. Just this once. I can't lose him again." Eddie's voice breaks at the last sentence, and he sits on the floor, eyes damp. He sits against the door, and waits for Steve to return, with hopefully good news. His mind wanders to yge the first time he actually met Steve. He had been hiding out in the house of an old acquaintance, when Steve walked in. Eddie was jumpy and paranoid and he didn't know Steve. He grabbed Steve and threw him against the wall, holding a broken beer bottle to his neck. Dustin had to convince him that Steve was there to help and wasn't a threat. Right before he took the bottle from Steve's neck, he remembers looking into Steve's eyes and noticing how beautiful they were. The thought had shook Eddie as he released Steve and backed up, trying to act like his world hadn't just been shaken on it's foundation by a pair of eyes. He didn't know how his life would change in that moment...
