Damn overtime day

"Don't let you forget your primary duty" Anthony reminded his youngest son.

Lucca nodded "Yes, father. I won't forget, this is my biggest mission."

"Don't let those people know your identity, or I'll take over by force," said Delvin, a slightly stocky man from across the dining table, he was Lucca's second brother and the pride of the Anthony family.

"Just last night you were almost caught, I'm sure he won't succeed," said the hawk-eyed woman, she was Isabelle, Lucca's half-sister who was only a few months apart from Lucca.

"Never mind, don't destroy your brother's mentality. We'll see how strong he is," said Shopia, Lucca's stepmother.

"You're coming with me, we're going somewhere," Anthony said flatly and walked away.

Lucca could only remain silent as her brother attacked her with harsh words, she was used to it. Unkind words were like daily food for her, it was true that she was not as good as Delvin and not as fast as Isabelle when carrying out missions.

But this time, Lucca promised she would get that eternal life.

°°°

The cold-looking man in the gray suit walked down each row of people in front of him, this was his first mission and he would not waste this opportunity.

Lucca greeted the first person, this aura was very unfriendly to Lucca's sense of smell 'This is not it, he is very bad' he said to herself.

Continuing to greet the second person, Lucca frowned slightly "No, I can't make a sacrifice. Even worse." he continued silently.

While Lucca was minding her own business, a girl in a cream-colored shirt and dark pants at the end of the line couldn't calm down when her eyes caught sight of the person walking towards her.

'He... Isn't he the person at the red light?!' Cassie thought.

"Wahh he's already going to the last row" Unlike Cessie, Liliana was eager to shake hands with the cold-looking man.

Cassie lowered her head when the man reached Liliana. Her chest thumped when seconds later the man stopped right in front of her.

'Should I leave? Or run away?' Cassie thought, upset.

'She...' Lucca muttered to herself, "Have we met before?" He said to the girl in front of her who wasn't even looking at her.

Cassie raised her gaze slowly, already resigned to being fired after this.

Lucca's hand was extended to Cassie, Cassie hesitantly accepted the hand.

'For God's sake, I'm resigned if I have to find a new job after this' Cassie thought.

"It seems... We met a few minutes ago, sir." Cassie squeaked softly

Lucca who heard the girl's words knitted her brows, trying to replay the memories in her head.

"Ah... That woman at the red light?" asked Lucca a little loudly, drawing the attention of the other employees.

Cassie closed her eyes for a moment, "I think so" Cassie replied.

"Well, have a good day at work." finally, and seconds later the man in the gray suit left with a smile at the end of his sentence.

Cassie took a breath, was this her lucky day? Or would it be her unlucky day? Never mind, Cassie would just surrender to what would happen in the future.

"Do you know, Mr. Lucca?" Liliana whispered right after the welcome ceremony was over.

Cassie glanced at her friend, "No, it's just that I've made a big mistake. And it looks like I'll be unemployed soon" replied Cassie listlessly.

"What does that mean?" asked Liliana, not understanding what Cassie was saying

"I don't know, it's a long story and it just happened." Cassie scratched her face, thinking about what would happen in the future.

Unlike the previous day, Cassie was working uncomfortably today. How could it not be, that Lucca, the CEO's son, chose the same department as Cassie. Cassie could even see those eyes watching her from behind the dividing window.

Cassie repeatedly chuckled, when her work was not finished.

"Cassie, why have your eyebrows been furrowed all this time? " Liliana approached Cassie with a neat appearance, ready to leave as it was already eight o'clock in the evening.

"My work isn't done yet, it looks like I'll be working overtime today" Cassie explained without looking away from the computer screen.

You could see Liliana shaking her head slightly, "Want me to accompany you?" she offered.

"No, I'm used to this job," Cassie said quickly.

Liliana nodded, "Well then, I'll be going then. Take good care, remember you have to go home tonight, don't stay overnight" Liliana paused her words "Mr. Lucca is still in the room" she continued and left waving her hand

Cassie turned her head, looking towards the next room. The lights were still on, it was true that the CEO's son was still not home.

"Argh I need to finish this quickly," Cassie said, typing a few sentences into the computer in front of her.

The night wind blew from the back window, the quiet and dark atmosphere made Cassie's hair stand up.

Cassie crossed her arms in front of her chest and rubbed her arms to warm up "Ahh I forgot to bring a sweater, why is it so cold today?"

The sound of footsteps could be heard faintly from behind, "Cassie" called someone in his distinctive baritone voice.

Cassie turned her body around, 'what a surprise' Cassie thought.

"Yeah, what's up?" asked Cassie as she saw Matthew standing behind her.

"You working late today?" he asked her

Cassie scratched her neck that wasn't itchy, "Yeah... I think so, I have some work to finish today" Cassie explained.

"Here you go, I bought some for Anthon earlier but he went home" Matthew handed Cassie a coffee cup with a logo on it

"Ah... No need"

"Take it, I'll be going," Matthew said putting a cup of coffee into Cassie's hand before walking away.

"Thank you, sir" Cassie shouted smiling happily, actually Cassie needed a warm drink at this time, it was a coincidence that her colleague gave her coffee and could warm her body a little.

It was already ten o'clock at night, Cassie turned off her computer screen and prepared to go home.

Before Cassie's foot stepped towards the door, her head turned towards the next room. The lights were still on, perhaps the man was still in there.

"Is he home yet?" Cassie said softly.

Cassie's feet stepped towards the small room at the other end, peeking between the crack of the glass door. Empty, Cassie didn't see anyone in there.

"Where did he go? That feeling was still inside" Cassie monologued.

Cassie's eyes curiously continued to scan the room in front of her, but still found no one there.

"What are you looking at?" a heavy voice from behind made Cassie spontaneously turn around.

"Sir..." squeaked Cassie, 'damn, did I get caught? Again?" Cassie continued inwardly

A tall man wearing only a black shirt as his body wrap raised one eyebrow, his sudden presence made Cassie's heart beat a little faster.

"Sorry sir, I was... Just checking, I see your office is still on" Cassie said with a clumsy smile

Feeling that there was no response from the man in front of her, Cassie was silent for a while.

'Why is he silent? Did I speak wrongly?' Cassie thought

"I'm sorry sir, once again I apologize" Cassie bowed her head, 'looks like I'm going to be unemployed tomorrow' she continued silently,

"Where's your house?" the man asked, making Cassie raise her gaze.

'What did he say?' thought Cassie

"My house is... In... Not far from here sir, at the... Nelson crossroads" Cassie explained biting her lower lip nervously.

She could see the man nodding, "Want to go home together? My house is one way" he offered.

Cassie froze at the words of the man in front of her, 'Why is this man so strange? Cassie realizes you have to keep this job for at least a month' Cassie thought to herself

"Ah... No sir, I usually go home by myself hehe" Cassie replied with a clumsy smile.

The flat-faced man nodded, "that's it, take care." he said as he waltzed away.

Cassie knitted her eyebrows together and opened her mouth, "Huh... well... Why is that guy's face so annoying, eugh" Cassie muttered, clenching her hands into fists and punching the wind as the tall body moved away.

As if today's misfortune wasn't over, Cassie stood at the bus stop for half an hour, and not a single vehicle passed in front of her.

Cassie looked at the clock in her hand, it was already past ten in the evening "Ck where are the people, why is it so quiet today?"

Whether God was testing her, or whether fate was playing tricks on her Cassie didn't know. But today was truly the most unlucky day Cassie had ever had.

With no other choice, Cassie walked away from the bus stop. Cassie's hand reached into the pocket of the coat she was wearing and pressed a name in her phone's contacts.

"Where are you?" someone's voice sounded from the other side before Cassie could say anything.

"Is it polite to say that to your sister?" said Cassie rolling her eyes as if there was someone in front of her.

"Ck, what are you calling about?" said Kevin.

"You're home already?" Cassie bowed her head, walking slowly and kicking the crickets that were in her way

A moment of silence from the other side, "already, there's no food here at all I'm starving. When are you coming back?" Kevin grumbled from the other side.

"I'm on my way home, just be patient," Cassie said raising her gaze to the deserted cityscape.

"Well, be careful-" Kevin stopped his speech when his ears accidentally heard an unfamiliar voice from the other side of the phone

"Hey... Did you forget about me?" it wasn't Cassie's voice, but a male voice who didn't know who and what he was doing with his sister.

'Ahh that jerk who ruined it,' Cassie thought when she saw a tall man standing in front of her

"You've ruined my life, have you forgotten? I won't let you go," the man said.

Cassie raised one corner of her lips, "Zico, what have I done to you that I ruined your life?"

The man named Zico rolled his eyes, "You made my fiancé angry and left me Cassie!" Zico shouted right in front of Cassie's face.

"So? It's not my fault, you're the one who made me your mistress, I should be the one who's angry, not you. It's a good thing that woman ran away from a crazy man like you" Cassie said with a flat face.

Zico played with his lips annoyed at Cassie's words, "Ah you're making me angry Cassie" Zico raised his hand, and pointed it at Cassie

Cassie who saw that the situation was not safe raised both hands to block, but one hand managed to stop Zico's hand before it touched Cassie.

Feeling like she was not getting hit, Cassie opened her eyes slowly. Her eyes rounded when she saw a tall man standing next to her and one of his hands managed to hold Zico's hand.

'Mr. Lucca?' Cassie thought when she saw the face of her CEO's son next to her

"Leave or I'll break this hand," Lucca said looking Zico sharply in the eye,

Zico winced in pain, "What's your business?" Zico shouted.

Lucca glanced at Cassie, "are you hurt?" she asked,

Instead of answering, Cassie's mind immediately drifted to the incident this morning where she met this man in a gray suit at the intersection and he said the same thing she had just said.

"Let me take care of it," Lucca continued and seconds later Lucca's burly fist flew into Zico's cheek and knocked him down.

"Don't ever bother my girlfriend again, or you'll die by my hand," Lucca said after he'd thrown a few punches at the man named Zico.

Cassie rounded her eyes perfectly, 'what did she say? Girlfriend? Who? Me?' Cassie thought.

Zico got up staggeringly, running away with his hand pressed against his left cheek "Just wait, I'll get back at you" he shouted as he ran away.

"You're not home yet?" the heavy voice shattered Cassie's reverie.

Cassie blinked her eyes a few times, her body frozen automatically.

"CASSIE!" someone shouted across the street, and the next second both Cassie and Lucca turned their heads towards the source of the voice.

There was a silhouette of a person running towards them, with his hair up and his feet crossing the street.

"Kevin" Cassie muttered under her breath.

The street lights shone clearly on Kevin's face, "Don't come near my brother!" he shouted as the distance between him and his brother's whereabouts grew closer.

Cassie's eyes widened when Kevin's small hand landed on the smooth face of the cold-faced man in front of her. Lucca's eyes looked at Kevin meaningfully.

"Kevin! What are you doing?" Cassie smacked her brother on the head, making him realize what he had just done

"A... He's the boy who's been bothering you, isn't he?" Kevin said.

Cassie looked at Lucca who was staring at Kevin, "No. He's not. Not him."

"Sir, are you okay? I'm sorry, my sister is a bit naughty. I'm sorry, sir" With a confused look, Cassie pleaded and hoped that this cold man would give her one last chance.

"Kevin! Hurry up and apologize!" Cassie ordered pulling Kevin's shirt collar a little roughly

"What? Why should I apologize to him? He's already hurt you, I don't want to," Kevin said.

Cassie hit her brother's head once again, "He's your boss, apologizes quickly!" Cassie whispered right in Kevin's left ear.

As if realizing what he had just done, Kevin rounded his eyes perfectly and hurriedly approached Lucca.

"I-I... I'm sorry, I didn't know. Please don't fire my sister, I'm sorry" Kevin said holding both of Lucca's hands reluctantly.

Still not receiving any response, Cassie came forward "Sir, it's okay, I know my mistake. I'm ready to be fired. I'm really sorry." said Cassie lowering her gaze.

"Sis... Withdraw your words, it's my fault. I won't let you lose your job" said Kevin quickly.

"It's okay, I understand." Lucca opened her voice, making Cassie quickly raise her gaze.

Cassie gaped in disbelief at what Lucca had just said, "Sir-"

"What did you take home?" Lucca said quickly before Cassie could finish her sentence, this time Lucca had a slightly calm face and no cold face like before.

"Sir, thank you. I promise I'll pay for my mistake, thank you" Kevin smiled happily, his hand rubbing Lucca's enthusiastically.

"It's okay, forget it. I don't like to make a big deal out of small things. Come on, I'll take you home"

"A-a no need sir, thank you very much. We can take the bus, or walk" Cassie said, feeling inappropriate about Lucca's offer.

Kevin approached Cassie, "Sis, the bus is out of schedule. Let's walk" he whispered

"Get in, before it rains" Lucca invited, opening the door of her black car.

Cassie and Kevin raised their heads, sure enough, the sky was very dark, and occasionally heard the sound of lightning above.

"No sir, thank you. We'll just walk home. I apologize again sir, and thank you for the offer." Cassie slightly bowed her body

The sound of wind hissed from the west, small raindrops began to fall onto the asphalt. Cassie raised her hand to make it an umbrella. It seemed like it was raining now.

"Quick, get in!" ordered Lucca, and pulled Cassie and Lucca's bodies into the car, followed by herself.

Being in the same space with the CEO's son made the oxygen inside feel depleted, there was no conversation at all as the black car drove.

Lucca who sat in the front as the one driving the car and Cassie and Kevin who sat in the back seat, everything was silent as if no one was even breathing between them. The sound of the rain falling on the car accompanied their journey.

"Up ahead, that's our house." squeaked Cassie when she saw her house up ahead.

The black car stopped right in front of the simple brown house, "thank you sir, and sorry for today." Cassie said breaking the silence.

Lucca looked at the back where Cassie was, "let's not talk about it anymore." she said.

"Sir, stop by first it's raining so hard it's not good to drive in this condition" Cassie opened her eyes wide and nudged Kevin's arm.

"What are you doing?" Cassie whispered.

Lucca seemed to be silent for a while "Well, I want some hot chocolate." she said making Cassie dumbfounded

"Yes sir, my sister's hot chocolate is delicious. Let's go in." Kevin said excitedly and got out of the car.

Before finally getting out Lucca looked at Cassie who was still silent, she lifted the corners of her thin lips making her face look very handsome and sweet.

'What was that?' Cassie thought
