Cynthia's POV
With less than a month left until our contract ended, I had already made my decision. I knew the second I found that card he left.
I would agree to become his wife on the day the contract ended.
But now I realized that I was just a substitute. His love for me was only because I looked like his dead mate.
I fell to the ground and cried. It felt like a boulder was pressing down on my heart. I could hardly breathe. All the moments that had once made me so happy now turned sour.
I had never felt so helpless and lost before.
A maid had been looking for me and found me crying on the floor of Jane's room. "Luna! What's wrong? Are you okay?"
I took the time to sort out my emotions, got up from the ground, wiped away my tears, and came up with a lame excuse.
"It's nothing. I just fell."
Silently, I picked up the bouquet I had prepared and set off in the direction of the cemetery to visit Jand and Fern.
