I blinked twice, my vision adjusting to the sight in front of me. Mom... and Frank.
"Mom," I said, surprised, my voice catching slightly. "Frank..." It took a moment for me to gather myself before I hurriedly stepped aside. "Please, come in."
Without a word, they stepped inside, but before I could process what was happening, Mom pulled me into a hug. It had been over a month since I last saw her- since the day we left that house. Her arms felt like home, and I hadn't realized how much I missed her until now.
"Hi, baby," Mom murmured, her voice trembling. "It's been too long." She kissed my forehead, her eyes glistening with tears as she brushed my hair back and cupped my face. "I've missed you."
"I've missed you too, Mom," I whispered, fighting the sting of tears. God, I never thought I'd feel this way, but I did. Maybe I wasn't as bitter as I pretended to be.
