Chapter 8: Vocalist

Chapter 8: Vocalist

The next day...

Chromatic Notes: In Eastern music, the chromatic scale consists of twelve pitches, each a half step (or semitone) apart. These include all the black and white keys on a piano keyboard. Chromaticism involves the deliberate inclusion of these chromatic tones within a piece of music.

Tonal and Non-Tonal Chromaticism: Tonal chromaticism refers to the use of chromatic tones within a tonal context, where there is a clear sense of key and harmonic progression. Non-tonal chromaticism, on the other hand, can be found in atonal or highly dissonant music, where traditional harmonic rules may not apply.

Function of Chromaticism: Chromatic tones are often used to add color, tension, or expressiveness to a musical passage. They can create moments of heightened emotion, suspense, or drama by deviating from the expected harmonic framework.

Resolution: Chromatic tones often resolve to diatonic (scale-based) tones within the key. This resolution provides a sense of closure and stability, helping to reconcile the tension created by the chromaticism.

Common Chromatic Techniques: Chromaticism can be achieved through various techniques, including chromatic passing tones (notes that connect two diatonic tones), chromatic neighbor tones (notes adjacent to a diatonic tone), and chromatic alteration of chords or melodic lines.

The addition of his attribute points made Eden happy as he started reciting the texts even more diligently.

But other than them, there was another reason he studied this section extra hard.

'Hmm, interesting...'

By using harmonic tension, he could introduce chromatic chords or chord progressions to convey the idea of fate's unpredictability or the complexities of destiny. For example, he could use chromatic passing chords to create tension before resolving to a more stable chord, symbolizing the twists and turns of fate. Symbolizing the helplessness one felt in the face of fate.

Using chromatic passing tones or neighbor tones in his vocal melody or instrumental lines, he could add emotional depth and expressiveness. Experimenting with sliding into or out of chromatic notes would contribute to invoking a sense of inevitability or uncertainty.

Indeed, studying was extremely useful in real life.

Unlike a certain theorem for triangles...

"Alright, well, today we're ending early. I have a work to attend, but don't slack off. Revise everything today; tomorrow we're going to have a test. Refer to the notes for any doubts."

"Alrighty," Eden nodded as he looked at Hugie putting on a coat before exiting the room.

He pretended to revise for a few minutes before finally jumping onto his bed, watching a few shorts.

"10 minutes more... Man, 10 minutes more... I'll stop at the fourth short... Damn, it's interesting. Oh! It has a part two too? One more short, man..."

And unknowingly, he had already spent over an hour scrolling through social media.

Sighing once again, he finally decided to disable the app, making 100 promises to himself that he'd never watch them again.

However, deep down, he knew enabling it back was inevitable. Somehow he'd find some excuse to do that.

Massaging his eyes softly, he simultaneously looked at the phone.

"7 already? Should I just call him tomorrow?"

"No! Tomorrow never comes! It has to be today!"

Determination flashed through his eyes as he was ready to call the vocalist, but an ad showcasing a game popped up instead.

"..."

"Looks... interesting. Should I download it? 10 minutes won't hurt, right? F*ck! My mind's corrupted!"

The urge to throw the phone erupted in his mind in the form of intrusive thoughts. In the end, he grabbed his wrist, controlling himself. After that, Eden carefully placed his finger a millimeter above the (×).

Finally, the tip came in contact with the screen.

=Game Store=

The game store was activated.

=Do you wish to download the game?=

=Yes= =No=

"..."

"They might as well make the button smaller than an atom..."

It was only thirty minutes later that he entered the call app.

The song that he'd decided to make had a sad theme to it. The vocalist necessary to sing the song would have to have a baritone or lower tenor range.

There was no point in hiring a vocalist from any company, nor any individual professional.

They'd charge too much...

He had once heard Theo sing. If Eden's memory was still valid, then he'd be able to save a lot of money.

Ring! Ring! Ring!

"H-hello..."

***

Within a small apartment not far away from the academy, a figure lying on his bed ended the call.

All the sleepiness within his body instantly vanished as he felt a rush of excitement within him.

After a few seconds, a beep sound echoed from the phone.

Any last wink of sleepiness was immediately destroyed by the beep.

Opening the mail, he looked at the file sent by "Coin," the alias of his favorite author.

Indeed, he was one of the topmost fans of "Coin."

Theodore was someone with weird taste, someone who couldn't enjoy what others did.

As a result, he had always been an outcast. Someone who didn't follow the norm.

It was just like any other day; he was bullied by one of the vocalist seniors for being a clean freak.

Depressed, he tried to listen to some niche music, trying to calm himself down.

All he had to do was call his family, go back, and live a peaceful, luxurious life.

Just one call away...

And yet he couldn't do it.

Was that what he truly wished for?

And that was when he had found the author "Coin." By randomly scrolling through social media trying to find mysterious songs.

Indeed, his taste was really weird; he detested those novels at top ranks while loving "Coin's" books, generously giving small parts of his allowance to the book.

Theodore felt that this author was the source of his motivations; it was only through reading those novels in his deepest and darkest times that he felt motivated.

And now that same author wished to collaborate with him?

Was he still dreaming?

The urge to pinch himself was hard to resist.

With those final thoughts, Theo clicked on the file, playing the tune.
