A new generation!

Ariana looked around, seeing a group of mixed reactions from people who stood beside her. She focused on her guide still in her hands, with eyes glaring at it in a weird way which made Gabbie who stood a few feet from her to laugh. * Come on, let's try again! * Gabbie encouraged, having her guide up and levitating. She was currently working on moving it around.

* LOCATE.! *

The next second the guide jolted and started spanning around. It spans in a circle before turning towards a direction from the center of the hall. Pointing towards the right wing of the hall. Accompanied by other freshmen whose guides were already moving towards the same direction. Gabbie followed after her guide, turning her gaze towards Ariana who was still holding her guide in both hands, * Good luck Ariana, see you around! * In her sloppy tone; she looked forward and kept walking after the others.

Head Griffin surveyed the hall. Her eyes falling on the group of students leaving the hall. * Keep following your guide. And when you arrive at your assigned dorm it would lose its effectiveness and fall down.* She informed the students who was curious about the process.

Time slowly flew by, Head Griffin seemed more patient with these freshmen. She watched the group of students who were struggling to levitate their guide, despite the numbers kept decreasing little by little. Her eyes held boredom with her patience running thin! * I guess we often see a number of lacking talent each year! * She muttered under her breath, afterwards she addressed them. * The best way to grow, either your potential or as humans is proper practice. Which some of you here seem to lack. As carriers of magic you all should have a high affinity for spell casting. * Head Griffin turned around uninterested in seeing how mediocre they were. She walked away headed for the opposite direction from where they stood; leaving them standing on the main Hall of Grandeur. * If ever you lots couldn't get your guide to levitate, then you would have to wait till the academy's famulus arrives later today! To clean up after you...* She kept walking onward without giving as much as to spare the remaining freshmen a glance, with only her departing foot step resounding from each step she took.

( I used the term famulus to describe personal menial attendance who severs students in the academy; from its actual meaning )

Looking around one last time, Araina saw the girl who made a contemptuous remark about her outside the bus. Along with her accomplice who were both heading for the right wing. She watched them past her while keeping a sneer on their faces. Holding the guide in her hand. She stared intensely at it before looking around the hall and noticing the number of students which kept decreasing by the minute. It made her harden her resolve, and she muttered amidst her breath, * Purple luggage, purple luggage, purple luggage... "

* Find and seek, locate my luggage! * Despite not being keen on using spell, Araina still tried. With much intensity in her eyes; reining in her fears of causing mayhem! This restraint made her hesitant on trying the spell. Though her result was different from the others around her, the guide flew up for seconds and fell back down again. Causing her to seem slightly frustrated; she felt like trampling the guide beneath her feet.

Araina bent over and picked the guide. She looked around the hall in a bent posture, seeing how some had similar cases like hers and amongst them some few couldn't get theirs to move at all. The angle which she curled at gave her an overview of everything happening in the hall. Frustration, helplessness and struggle which made some freshmen to sweat now from exertion with others still trying to make the spell work. Araina stood up still holding the guide in her hands and she remembered her last days conversation with her mother.

*******

At Willow's town library.

* Mom! Mom...look! I got admitted into the academy of Sparks! * Ariana jumped in joy towards her mother arranging books into a shelf.

* What's that dear? *

* Mom I got admitted into the academy! *

* Oh- my! That's...* Teresa trailed off on her words.

* Mom I can finally go over to the capital! * Arian held her mother's hands while bouncing up and down in pure ecstasy.

Later that same day, at Araina's house. Both mother and daughter were seated at the dining table about having their meals.

* Ummm... Araina...my dear! What I'm about to say...I don't want you to feel hurt, but due to reasons I think you shouldn't go to the capital! * Teresa spoke out.

* Mom...but the academy is in the capital! * Araina remarked trying to act smart.

* Maybe that's what I'm asking of you. Can you please not go to the academy? *

* But mom...I got admitted! And you said if I got admitted I could go. *

* I know that. But honey! It's complicated and you can't handle yourself properly... what if they find out you can't use spells like other witches of your age? * Teresa's tone became strained, visibly laced with worry.

* Mom. That's what I am! Now how would I become better if I don't learn? And where is the best place to learn than the academy! * Araina stated reasonably.

* Honey I know! I'm just worried about you. What if you don't fit in... and the academy doesn't understand you? Or if....*

* Mom please! Let me learn now. * Araina said visibly aggravated. She stomped her arms on the table.

* Alright fine dear, you can go but if the place isn't warm and welcoming enough, promise you would come back home... * Teresa relented with a sigh.

Recalling that argument, she became more strong-willed to try fitting into this side of the world.That determination burned inside her. She took a firm step from behind the hall towards the very front. She clapped her hands in an attempt to gain the attention from the others present in the hall.

* I'm sorry for disturbing you all, but I think our current situation deserves a better solution! No offense with what you all are doing, but I think I know a way in which we could all get what we all want.* Her words caused the others to look at her weirdly, they had already given up; few others were already seated in the ground waiting for the academy's famulus to arrive and now someone was sprouting that she could help them.!

* I know this might sound strange, but I need you all to believe. We could achieve the impossible if we put our mind into it. * She gave a speech into riling them up. Afterwards she placed her guide below her feet, smiling at them. * Now come closer everyone. * She had an assuring smile on her face which clearly seems like someone who had an idea.

* What's your idea anywhere? * A sheepish girl asked, all drained from utilizing the spell.

* The point of it all is to form a circle with our guide placed at our feet...like this! forming a connection with our hands intertwined! * She explained her idea to them.

* And how sure are you it would work? * Another person from the group who was seated asked, feeling exhausted. Though Ariana's enthusiasm drew a few people towards her, others still felt skeptical about trying her idea. Since they were already tired from exhaustion.

She kept that warm and suiting smile on her face not letting the down casted attitude of the group way her down. Ariana gave them an encouraging look urging them to have a bit of faith. * We are a new generation of beings! Why do we feel bad if we can't follow the existing laws? When we can make our own rules, which would be our definition! * Ariana said extending her hands, in an attempt for those around her to hold onto and form the circle. Her words became the last driven force which compelled the others left in the hall to take each other's hands, walking towards her and placing the guide at their feet. All thirteen of them left in the hall stood in a circle, placing their guide beneath their feet and looking at her. Araina looked at them with resolution in her eyes. * Now let's try a new approach, in place of our luggage let's think of the happy moments we've had. A beautiful memory and positivity only! * Hearing that they all gave a nod with Ariana who also nodded at them while seeing the new light of hope in their faces.

Though young and filled with lots of uncertainty about herself, Araina never misses an opportunity to challenge the preset rules confining her. She loved challenging old and existing protocols which did not work to her advantage, or makes her seem less compared to her peers in any way. Already her existence had been a protocol breaking feat in itself; since the existence of a witch without the ability of utilizing spells is something unheard of. This same reason made her mother scared of releasing her into the world! Her arrival at the academy, was a dream for a long time. After hearing words about the four great academics, not to mention her mother who was a librarian; giving her little access to books on the concept. It became an ambition, how she would become a student from one of the academies, and change her social status. Regardless of the prevailing circumstances of making it through the school's systems and laws.

Araina watched the group with mixed reactions amongst them, some with anticipation; others with shreds of doubts in them. Still she never felt dismayed at their reaction, rather she showed more courage towards her objective.

* Now, we would be relying on each other as our strength and aid! * she added.
