CHAPTER 96

Xu Kai got home deep in thoughts of what he had learned today. During that time had to be the time she was assigned as his secretary, and she couldn't refuse because she later saw that the secretary position paid three times more than the one of the designers.

Cheng Xiao had stayed as his secretary when she first saw her paycheck and saw it was more than she would have made while being a designer. With that amount of money, she was able to cover her mother's hospital bills with no issues.

Cheng Xiao's family had never been the one to be borrowing money, which was why even when Shen Mu's family wanted to cover the bills, her mother had been the first to refuse. Even though they were family friends for a long time, her mother didn't want to take advantage of their friendship by taking the money.

Xu Kai walked into the room and found Cheng Xiao on the couch working. He paused for a minute and stared at her. All he could was a twenty-two-year-old Cheng Xiao working extra hard to cover her mother's medical cost.

Cheng Xiao looked up when she heard the door open and went back to her work, she could feel his eyes on her to which she looked up again and saw him staring at her, but she didn't say anything and went back to her work.

"Do you need anything?" Cheng Xiao asked.

"No!" Xu Kai replied.

"Then stop staring at me, I can't concentrate." Cheng Xiao replied.

Xu Kai walked to her; he sat on the couch next to her and stared at her again. Cheng Xiao grabbed the papers on the table and stood up; she was going to go somewhere she could do her work without him there.

"Cheng Xiao!" Xu Kai called her and stood up as well.

Xu Kai took the papers from her hands and placed them on the table again. He turned her towards him and looked at her.

"Why have you never told me about your mother?" Xu Kai asked.

"I was your secretary, how could my mother's health matter to you?" Cheng Xiao asked.

"What about now?" Xu Kai asked.

"What about now? There is nothing different now." Cheng Xiao replied.

"I am your husband!" Xu Kai replied.

"I have never acknowledged you as one." Cheng Xiao replied and tried to walk away from him.

"It must have been hard for you." Xu Kai said hugging her from behind,

"It has all passes, who told you about my mother?" Cheng Xiao asked.

"Hu Yiting!" Xu Kai replied.

"Can you let me go now?" Cheng Xiao asked hinting to stop hugging her.

"I have work to do; I don't have time to reminisce the past with you." Cheng Xiao said and tried to remove his hands.

"Then let me hold you for five minutes." Xu Kai said and tightened his arms around her waist.

His head rested on her shoulders, and he closed his eyes and inhaled her scent.
