Out of His League

The sound was like the crack of a whip. 

It seemed to echo through the house like thunder after lightning. The moment seemed to go on forever even though it took only a few seconds. It was like the world shifted because of that simple action. 

Then, silence came. 

Leila had not expected such an action from Isaiah. She knew he would not react well to the file, but he had always been a mild-mannered person who tended to shut off when things got hard since Leila had known him. 

Therefore, it was a surprise that he would react violently. 

But no one was more shocked than Charlotte Lawson. 

When the slap landed, she did not feel pain. Her brain could simply not register the action because it was inconceivable. She could not process what had happened. Her mind became quiet and motionless.
