Cinderella's Pumpkin Carriage

On this day, Hans heard Martin on the phone.

"Mother, I don't think there's any need to make such a big deal out of my birthday, I just want to have a simple celebration with my friends."

"How can that be, your birthday it's a great opportunity to meet famous people and the best time for you to socialise as an adult, laying the foundations for the road ahead."

"But, Mother ..."

"This is non-negotiable, your father and I have already invited people.Martin, it's time for you to come out and meet people." Martin's mother hung up the phone.

As a young master of a rich family, he had his own troubles. He grew up disliking this way of making friends by first looking at his background and birth rather than whether the two people shared the same aspirations. That's why he chose Hans as his friend instead of his peers who were of similar background to him.

Hans heard this and thoughtfully approached Emily and Sarah.

"Oh, so, that's what's bothering the young master?" Emily and Sarah both exclaimed after hearing about Martin.

Emily couldn't even tell what the exact emotion was, fighting for him and envying him at the same time.

"Why? Doesn't Martin want to make friends with famous people, I think it's a good thing." Emily asked.

"You don't know, Martin has always hated this kind of socialising, he thinks it's hypocritical, and, he hates people who worship money, so he also hates people who go to approach him because of their family background."

"He also hates people who go near him because of their family background the most." The words rang in Emily's head all over again, what would Martin do to her when he knew the truth?

"Emily, Emily!" called Sarah to her, "What's wrong with you? What are you staring at?"

"Oh I'm fine, got lost in thought for a while, go on, what are we doing next." Emily snapped back.

Hans stood between the two and said, "Martin's birthday is this Saturday, so let's give him one on Friday so he has a birthday he really likes!"

"Mmmmmm, let's do that!" All three nodded solemnly.

"Sarah, what do you think, what should I get Martin for his present? I don't have the money for anything too expensive, and I'm afraid he won't see anything too cheap." On the way back to the dormitory, Emily asked Sarah.

"Well ... want me to say ah, he what expensive things have not seen it, as others have said, the heart is the most important, you personally make him the same what?" Sarah said.

Hearing Sarah say this, Emily remembered that the scarf material kit she bought during the New Year's Eve has not been used yet, she hugged Sarah and said, "Yes, Sarah! You are really so smart, so sweet and nice!"

Sarah gave her a blank look, "Nerve."

For the next few days, Emily was busy, she finished her classes and then grabbed the time to finish her teacher's homework, there were times when the four of them fixed to have dinner together every day and she didn't go, and whenever she had free time she learnt how to knit a scarf, looking at the tutorials online and taking it step by step.

There were times when she didn't want to go to bed even when it was lights out time, and Sarah called out to her from her bed, "What are you doing if you're not going to sleep so late?"

"Knitting scarves is really hard! Ahhhhh ...," Emily yelled from her seat.

"What a power of love." Yun sighed from his bed.

"Emily, better go to bed early." Isabella said gently.

"I can't, I have to give it to him this Friday, it's too late." Emily slumped over the table.

"Seeing as you're so miserable, I'll come down and keep you company, and help you see how to knit on the way." Sarah said and got off the bed.

Yun and Isabella saw this and offered to stay with Emily as well.

Emily was very touched to see that they were all coming to keep her company, the three of them sat around Emily and watched her knit, occasionally getting on and helping her a little.

"So touched, you guys are such good roommates! I'm going to cry ..." Emily did her best to wrap her arms around the three of them.

"Hey, no, no, look here, it's supposed to be like this."

"Let me see where it is ..."

"..."

The four of them fought and joked and stayed up until 4 a.m. before going to bed.Emily looked at the nearly finished scarf and said to them in a serious manner, "I'll be sure to talk to Martin when I give him the one I gave to him, this scarf was knitted by the people in our dormitory together until 4 a.m."

"Hahahahahahahahahaha ...," all three laughed out loud.

"That won't be necessary, what about you two's love, we'll stay out of it." Yun said.

"Go to sleep now, go to sleep now, tomorrow morning morning nine!" Sarah urged them to get some rest soon.

Years later, everyone was still able to remember this night when they stayed up late together to knit a scarf, none of the four of them had ever imagined that the first scarf of their lives would actually be knitted for Martin.

The next morning, the four people without exception all got up late, even Sarah such a delicate beauty is hurriedly wash her face and go to class, four people with thick dark circles under their eyes to class, this class is also a professional class.

The male classmate beside me looked at the four of them withered in spirit and said, "You four, what did you do last night?"

"Nothing, just didn't sleep well." Emily replied back.

"Hmph, I don't believe it, Yun is sleepy as a dog." The male student pointed at Yun, and all three of them looked towards Yun, who was rolling his eyes from dozing off, and they were all trying to stifle their laughter.

Emily had been distracted all class, it was already Wednesday and there was still a bit left of the scarf, so she had to finish it quickly.

Sarah still wasn't dressed up when she went to class in the afternoon, she went back to her dorm to catch up on her sleep and didn't get up until close to class.

"Sis, you don't look like this often enough, but it's still pretty, too." Hans sat next to her poorly.

"I'll never stay up that late again." Sarah said.

"Stay up until what time? Stay up for what?" Hans asked curiously.

"It's all Emily and no, it's all Martin!" said Sarah exasperated.

Hans sounded confused, "What the hell?"

"It's Martin's birthday, and Emily wanted to knit him a scarf, but it was so rushed that we stayed up with her all night last night, until 4 o'clock in the morning." Sarah said.

Hans heard Emily hand knit a scarf for Martin, the heart is especially not a taste, also heard that they stayed up until so late, Hans for a moment do not know whether he is envious and jealous of Martin or hate Martin, Emily actually for him so serious, it is not possible that Emily likes him, right?

Hans instantly lost his spirit, and did not continue to talk to Sarah. Sarah only felt strange, and did not say anything more.

Hans just wanted to go and ask Emily whether she liked Martin or not, but he also knew how reckless he was to do so, he held back, and he didn't tell Martin in advance, he knew that Emily was like this, she must have wanted to give Martin a surprise.

Martin was left alone, he didn't know anything, but he also sensed that the atmosphere was a bit strange lately.

"Why is Emily always gone for dinner, did something happen to her?" Martin asked the remaining two.

Hans didn't even want to answer him and ignored it.

"Oh, Emily's been working so hard lately, she says she wants to study!" Sarah's panic was very lame.

"Hmm?" Martin naturally knew that Sarah was joking.

"Martin, aren't you going to say anything to us?" Hans suddenly asked him.

Martin and Hans had been friends together since high school, and of course he knew what Hans was talking about with his words, but his mother wouldn't let him spend time with his friends, and Martin didn't want to bring it up again.

"I want to be with you guys too- but there are things that I can't decide alone." Martin said.

Sarah, who was on the sidelines, was a bit nervous, she felt that the atmosphere was a bit tense, she remembered the last time the two of them had a falling out she was there too, and she even wanted to stand up and talk them out of it.

"I know, I understand, I just wish you'd take more notice of certain people who are trying really hard." Hans said, and when he was done, Hans left the cafeteria.

Martin heard something strange, what did he mean by "certain hard working people" Sarah knew that Hans was talking about Emily, but to keep it a surprise, she didn't tell Martin either.

"Hey, let's leave him alone, let's eat, let's eat." Sarah tried her best to act normal.

Martin felt so strange, he always felt that they were hiding something from him, but neither of them would say anything, he decided to ask Emily when he went back in the evening, she would definitely tell him.

"Emily, why didn't you come to dinner today? What have you been up to lately?" Martin sent a message to ask Emily.

"Nothing much lah, busy with school, don't worry, I have been eating properly too." Emily replied back to him.

"I feel like you guys are hiding something from me, but they both won't tell me when I ask them, what's going on?"

Emily knew what he was talking about and she immediately denied it, "No, you're overthinking it, we're not hiding anything from you."

"In that case, fine." Martin didn't ask any more questions.

Emily was a little lost, looking at him like this, was he a little sad, but on second thought, it was also a surprise, it's better to keep it a secret for now, Emily went back to knitting him a scarf.

"What should I do, it still feels like I can't finish knitting it, looks like I have to stay up late again tonight." Emily was knitting the scarf in her seat, she felt especially drained today after staying up all night yesterday, but if she didn't hurry it would be too late again, she immediately perked up again.

Sarah saw this and was a little put off, she really wanted to force her to go to bed.

"Emily, don't stay up so late today after sleeping so late yesterday." Isabella said concerned.

"I can't, it's too late if I don't." Emily said without looking up.

Sarah gave a look to Isabella and Yun, and the two of them didn't say anything else. Sure enough, after a while, Emily fell asleep directly on the table.

Sarah snickered and Yun gave her a thumbs up, "Or you know her!"

Isabella went to switch off the lights, they had gone to bed before lights out today, they were all too tired.

"If Martin really likes Emily then he doesn't care what she knits." Sarah said.Yun and Isabella both nodded.

"Ahhhhhhhhhhh! It's over, it's over ..." Emily screamed early in the morning waking up the other three.

"Emily keep it down, don't disturb the other dorms." Isabella was gentle as always.

"What to do, I actually fell asleep last night! I can't finish knitting the scarf ..." Emily was so anxious that tears were welling up in her eyes.

Sarah caught this look on Emily's face and was a little surprised, had Emily really moved on? She got out of bed and pulled her to the balcony, "Emily, you don't really like Martin, do you?"

Emily felt instantly questioned, she couldn't say no, but she couldn't say yes either.

Sarah sighed and said, "I saw that you were too tired and didn't call you again yesterday when you were asleep. Forget it, just wash up and get to class."

Emily was a little frozen in place, if she really liked Martin was it a good thing or a bad thing to be close to him because of the money, it wouldn't be a bad thing if it was true love, but what if one day he knew the truth?

The water in the sink was cold and a little bit harsh.

Thursday is almost full of classes, woe is me, the counsellor went to check on the evening study tonight, Emily had to seriously stay in the classroom to do her homework. She couldn't knit the scarf, and Emily looked at the half-finished project in her hands as if she just couldn't finish it.

Friday morning, as the countdown to Martin's birthday began, Hans asked Sarah and Emily to skip their morning classes.

Emily was a little sheepish, "Is this really okay for us, I'm kind of scared of being named."

Sarah patted her on the back, "What's the point of panicking, I've already instructed Yun and Isabella."

"If Martin knew how hard we've been working, he'd have to move me to tears!" Hans said.

The trio went to the cake shop and they decided to make a cake for Martin with their own hands.

With trepidation, the three began to make it under the guidance of the shop assistant ...

"What colour does Martin like? Do boys usually like blue or black?"

"Whatever colour, pink, yellow, purple give him some, chocolate, strawberry, blueberry ..."

After a busy morning, their cake finally came out, it was a basic round cake with two tiers in various colours, it was a bit ugly to be honest, but the shopkeeper still said "it looks like an overturned palette", and the top tier had a crooked note: "Happy Birthday Martin! Happy Birthday Martin!" Finally, the trio left the bakery satisfied.

The place for the birthday was nowhere, it was in the unlit basketball court, because this basketball court was open for the longest time, it was the one that Hans and Martin often came to, so Hans chose this place.Martin was asked out by Hans for unknown reasons, when he came here with the basketball, he was a little bit in a trance, and the basketball in his hand rolled away to nowhere.

"Happy Birthday to you, Happy Birthday to you, Happy Birthday to Martin! Again in English, Happy birthday to you... "

Hans led the way singing the out of tune birthday song, every one of them was very loud, the colourful cake with dense candles, they took the cake step by step towards him.Martin stood still, it turned out, this was what the three were hiding from him. He didn't expect that they would give him a birthday, so unique, only the four of their best friends' birthday, under the candlelight, a dim warm yellow light, the atmosphere of the four of them became extra warm.

"Blow out the candles, blow out the candles." The four people blew out the 19 candles together.

When making a wish, all four people silently closed their eyes, there might not be anyone in this world who would wish for the exact same thing, but they all wished at this moment that the four of them would be best friends for the rest of their lives.

"What did you guys wish for?" Hans asked.

"I'm not telling you, it won't work if I tell you!" Sarah answered him.

"Well well well ..."

"I wish that we are best friends forever." Martin said out of the blue, all three of them froze a little when they heard this, not realising it was the same as their own wish.

Emily was a bit embarrassed to take out her own lame gift, she gave Sarah a wink, Sarah smiled, she could guess all of Emily's thoughts, Sarah immediately pulled Hans, "I suddenly want to go to the toilet, where are the toilets in this basketball court, take me there!"

Hans was not ready to be pulled away by Sarah, "Hey, ask the boys to go to the toilet for what..."

Seeing that they left, Emily then breathed a sigh of relief. She slowly took out her scarf and lowered her head, she didn't dare to look up at Martin, "It's, it's a scarf I knitted myself, but it's kind of unattractive ..."

Martin was shocked and delighted when he saw her pull out a black scarf that was a little rough in fabric and technique, as if it wasn't finished, he caught it right away, Emily was actually knitting him a scarf?

"If you don't like it, you can, you don't have to ..." Emily whispered, still not daring to look up.

"Emily, I love it, I really love it, you know, it's the first scarf I've ever received that someone else knitted for me by hand, and I love it." Emily heard the happiness in his voice, which slowly raised her head to look at him, she pursed her lips and said, "Really, it's good that you like it."

Martin immediately put it around his neck. "Oops, it's a bit short, I should have known to try harder to knit more." Emily looked at the scarf a little lost.

"It's okay, you can wear it like this too, it's comfortable." Martin said with a smile.

Emily breathed another sigh of relief, it seemed Martin was still happy with the gift.

"Emily, thank you." Martin looked at her tenderly.

"You're welcome, you're welcome ...," Emily was a little rushed by the compliment.

"Actually, I have a request, Emily, can you come to my birthday banquet?"

"Huh? Me?" Emily couldn't believe her ears, Martin had invited her to his birthday party, wasn't that a rich man's party?

"Yes, I didn't want my mother to set me up with a date I didn't like." Martin's tone was disgruntled and downcast.

It was like the fictional rich kids, they could splurge thousands of dollars, but they couldn't choose who they loved. It wasn't a good thing that Emily was there, she finally had a chance to see what his world was like.

"So, do you want me to be your date at the birthday party?" Emily gathered her courage.

"Yes, is that okay?"

"Of course it's okay, we're good friends." Emily hesitated for a moment to answer him. She deliberately said good friends, expecting Martin to react.

Martin naturally minded in his heart, he has long been clear about his own feelings, he likes Emily, he was still trying to think of ways to convince Emily to go to the birthday party with him, and now he has a reason. However, she said it was because she was a good friend, and the meaning of a female companion for a birthday party was already obvious. He liked someone else for the first time, and he hesitated, fearing that Emily would not fall in love with him, and he was even more sad to hear the words "a good friend", but his reasoning told him to wait a little longer.

Emily didn't wait for much of a response from him, but just nodded and smiled. Yes, how could it be so easy to make a rich young master like this fall in love with an ordinary girl, keep trying.

"Tomorrow you have to get up earlier oh, I'll take you to try on dresses." Martin said gently.

"Mmhmm."In the distance Sarah and Hans naturally did not go to the toilet, they watched from afar, then the faint light saw Emily for Martin to put on the scarf.Hans's heart all of a sudden empty, he can not say what the feeling is, the eyes are dull, he did not say anything, but know everything."Can't hear what they're saying either, it's been so long, I should be able to go back."Sarah said."Go ahead, I'm a little tired, I'll head back."Hans dropped the sentence and left."What? Are you kidding me?There's no cake yet!" Sarah called out to him, Hans still left without looking back.Sarah went back resentfully, she couldn't figure out why Hans suddenly had to leave, and she was distracted for the rest of the day. When she got back to her dorm, Emily announced the news in her dorm.

"Martin wants me to go to his birthday party and be his date." Emily spun around in the middle of the dorm."That's fine, Emily, it's not a direct take down of the young master!" Yun coaxed from the sidelines.Sarah and Isabella also laughed and were happy for her.

It was only when it was time to turn out the lights and go to bed that Sarah crawled over to Emily's bed, "I didn't expect that Martin would let you go as his date.""I didn't expect it either, it's quite a surprise."Emily recalled the way Martin said that.

"Emily, for what it's worth, I just want you to be really happy." Sarah wrapped her arms around her, "Sometimes, marrying into a family might not be such a good thing."

"Mmmmmm, I know. Me, it's not like I still have you." Emily wrapped her arms around her as well, and the two of them talked about something else before leaving.

The next morning, Martin was waiting for Emily downstairs in the dormitory, having bought her breakfast."Did you sleep well last night?" Martin asked."Pretty good."Emily smiled at him.

"Here's your breakfast, eat it in the car. We're going to try on the dresses we're wearing tonight."

Emily nodded and followed Martin all the way to the black Maybach.Emily sat on it and ate the breakfast that Martin had bought for her, her thoughts were all over the place.Emily felt like Cinderella, sitting in a luxurious pumpkin car going to a limited dinner party. The gown, the crystal slipper, the prince, it was all time limited and she had to be back by twelve.

Emily is amazed at how unpredictable things are, and how she could have ever imagined this day in the first place. She really wanted to tell Yun that she had come to A city right, and she had made the right bet. She must grasp this opportunity, she will be able to do what she wants to do.
