Haven by the Sea

—Lucius

The salty tang of the ocean was the first sign we were getting close to where we wanted to go. We'd been traveling for weeks through this dangerous land where strange, magical things had been happening.

The city of Maerebor appeared in front of us like a dream - a place of safety in a world that was falling apart.

As we reached the top of the last hill, I could feel everyone in our small group relax a little. Talon's shoulders dropped, and Zira's eyes lit up with excitement and wonder.

Even I felt a bit hopeful when I saw the city's bright white walls, even though I've lived for hundreds of years and don't get excited easily.

"It's bigger and more beautiful than I thought it would be," Talon said quietly, using his hand to block the sun from his eyes.

Zira nodded, agreeing with him. "I can feel the old magic here. It's strong. Can you feel it too, Lucius?"
