The Space in our Heart

Chapter 4

It is obvious for a fact that whatever it is, they are with each other right now...

"Mom." I turned. She's in the middle of putting down her purse on my bed, when she looked at me in response.

Should I... Should I just tell her? I don't know... And if I do, will things get better? Probably not.

"Nothing..." I faltered. "What kind of hair do you think will match my dress?"

How can I be like this? Aren't I supposed to be bawling my eyes out, shouting "how could he?."

I don't know what's stopping me in doing so. Maybe guilt? or maybe because I'm in denial? or is it because I feel sad from all those years we wasted...

"Maybe we'll do a messy bun honey."

I'm more surprised how composed I am at this moment. "The Daughter of a Tycoon Pregnant and getting Cheated on by her Fiance and Sister."  What a cool headline that'll make.

I scoffed as I face the mirror. Mom was gazing at me with both brows furrowed together and her head tilted.

"Uh... Yes?" I blinked. "W-what— what is it... Mom?"

"Honey are you okay?" Forcing down a frown before it show's to my face. I smiled.

"Absolutely!." I beamed. "Why wouldn't I be o-okay?"

"..." Sighing heavily then shook her head, a small of a smile appeared in her face.

"Nothing mija, let us get this done."

Mom just made a simple updo with my hair. It was elegant enough with the loose strands and pearl beads in it, paired with a simple make up done as well.

"This is beautiful mom, thank you." I smiled in my reflection as I spoke dulcetly with mom smiling widely as well, as her hands gently rested upon my shoulders caressing it softly.

"You look so beautiful honey, Zion is so lucky to have you." She spoke proud but sincerity laced her tone that caused my smile to falter, as well as the tear that escaped my eye. Yes mom he sure is a lucky son of a bitch.

"Oh honey!" I shooked my head. I gave mom an reassuring smile as I looked up to face her.

"Of course mom, sorry, I'm just so happy." I spoke immediately as I wiped the tear away an attempt to lead the conversation away.

"Well of course the drama here we go." She spoke in a goofy manner, completely mistaking what my tears was for thankfully, as she gently walked to my side placing her hands gently on my cheeks.

"Now now let's not ruin that make up and let us head downstairs." I let out a small chuckle standing up from my seat as mom stood there and fixed the small crinkles my dress had.

"That's a good idea mom." As we ascended down the stairs the door bell rang. Now I'm not sure if that would either be my fiancee nor my sister, but I hope it is not them. I am still not ready to face neither.

"I'll get the door and you go call Lucille and check if we missed something okay honey?" She then walked towards the door leaving me at the foot of the stairs.

I sighed once more and my lips forming a thin line as I walk towards the living room. How I wish this day would suddenly just end. How I wish this damned day would just stop and skipp all that's supposed to happen later this day.

But as if that would happen. Those things where the fairy god mother grants the damsel's wish, would and only happen in books and fairytale movies. I know that well. But right now how I wish reality would just bend and grant me just that.

As I picked up the telephone I scoffed at how silly my thoughts are. Pushing the thoughts away I pushed the speed dial for Lucille, having wait for three rings she picked up.

"Hello?" A sweet high pitched melodic voice sounded from the other line.

"Hey, Lucille it's me."

"Oh Jade, sweetie I was just about to call you!" She beamed followed by a few voices in the background and the rustling of plastic.

"The desserts and fruits are on its way with us sweetie don't worry." She replied before I can even speak.

"Thank you Lucille, Mama told me to check if we we're missing something else." I then spoke.

"Oh no no it's all done darling don't worry. Tell your worrywart of a Mama that everything is settled okay?" She joked followed by a high pitched laughed on the other line.

"Ah yes I will." I laughed softly as well. "Thank you Lucille have a safe trip."

As I bid my good bye as well as the other line, Mom entered the living room in tow with five of our close relatives behind her.

"Tia Julianna." Greeted the thin but elegant porcelain colored woman dressed in a royal blue dress as I put down the telephone, she came to hug me followed by my Tio Hermin in a black suit.

"Tio, it's so good to see both of you well." I hugged back, Mom smiling at us.

"Look at you mija, you have grown to be such a beauty!" Tia joyfully praised as she animatedly described it with her hands to wich I smiled.

"And you look as young as before as well Tia." Politely praising her back to which she laughed.

"Oh you flatter me too much mija!." Tio patted my shoulder as they walked away towards the back yard where the event will be held.

My heart started to tighten as my the corner of my eyes got glimpse of the clock. 5:30 pm he said he'd be back two and a half hours ago...

"Mija?" Mom called in my attention as I felt her hand on my arms. "Are you alright?"

There's more guesst now in the back yard. When did the got so many?. "Jade?"

Mom's grip tightened. "Y-yes? Yes I am fine just... Just nervous."

I tried to laugh it off as I held mom's hands on mine giving it a gentle squeeze. A gentle and reassuring smile on my face, a complete opposite of what's happening inside of me right now.

How I want to scream in every minute that passes by, to everyone in here how the man I am supposed to marry months from how is now cheating behind me with my very own sister.

"Your Papa will be here Jade." Mom smiled as she looked in my eyes. I froze. Papa? Papa will be here?

My breathing hitched. The same papa that didn't even bother attendings any occasions except if it's concerned Jane? "P-papa?... Papa will be here?"

I repeated. Maybe I heard wrong? But I hope not. A smile creeped on my face as I looked at Mama smiling at me nodding her head in confirmation.

At least something good in this day will happen. Papa will be here to witness my engagement party... The same papa that continued to treat the rest of us like invisible except for his hija Jane, now here finally to see me. How can I not be happy?
