Alex's Breaking Point

Alex turned his head slightly, his gaze sweeping over the open suitcases and scattered documents on the floor. His eyes darkened for a brief moment, but when he looked at Lily again, his expression was nothing but warmth—gentle, like sunlight filtering through a window.

"Why are you suddenly going through these things?" he asked casually.

"I…" Lily faltered, unsure of what to say. "I was just… looking through them."

"Just looking?" Alex crouched beside her, his gaze soft yet piercing, like a starry night full of hidden depths. His voice carried a note of concern. "But you don't seem okay."

"I'm fine. Really."

Alex's eyes flickered toward the stack of papers on the floor. "These are the documents your father never signed, aren't they? Do you miss him?"

He asked the question naturally, his face betraying no emotion beyond quiet understanding.
