"Have you seen that girl around school today?" I ask Finn who was only glued to his phone next to me, there was no doubt he was talking to his mate with the smug smile on his face.
"What girl?" He looked up at me in shock. "This is the first time you are asking about a girl at all and quite frankly, it is sudden because it seems you are asking about someone I am supposed to know. Wait!" He quickly dipped his phone into his pocket and moved closer to me, holding my arms as he faced him, his face just at the mid of my neck which only made it funny but I was in no mood to laugh.
"Have you found your mate?!" He asked, in whisper so he would not attract the attention of everyone but with so much happiness in his face that he looked as though he wanted to jump off the roof.
"No, there's just a girl I saw two days ago and I was hoping to see her again. You should even know her, she's an omega in our pack but the issue is, I only see her here in school and never see her back home which is funny because the omegas are usually everywhere, having something to do."
"Oh." Finn said, the joy he felt suddenly reducing. "I don't know who you are talking about then.
"You should know her. She is usually bullied here in school by our peers, always on the floor from beatings or curled up against the wall trying to nurse her wounds."
Finn looked up in shock, as if he suddenly knew who and what I was talking about. "Yeah, I know her but I have not had any course to keep tracks of her movement, why now? Do you need something from her? I am sure she is not your mate or important to you in anyway so what do you need her for?"
"Nothing important. Just that the last time I saw her, she ran away from me and I wanted to teach her a lesson about servants like herself respecting hierarchy."
Finn laughed. "Just let her be. She already has it as hard as it can get. Funny that I also don't remember growing up with her since all the pups actually grew together in the pack, even the omegas' and I don't know who her parents were. She seems very mysterious."
I shook my head. "True."
I could not help but think about her and I did not know why but I doubted she was my mate. If she was, I was to feel some sort of connection to her and to her wolf but there was nothing between my wolf and hers. Seeing as it was what Adam, my wolf, had wanted for a long time, he would have been all over the place.
Besides, there was no way the moon goddess would have paired me with someone that was the foot mat of the pack, I deserved better. I deserved the daughter of an Alpha so my pack would be stronger and bigger or a wolf who was an hybrid, the mixture or combination or two powerful worlds, a werewolf and another creature such as lycans, vampires among many others.
I waved it off. I cared about the girl but that was about just it. She was weak, fragile and could almost not walk on her own, there was no way someone like that was for me, there was absolutely no way.
Mid way into the first class of the day, Jasmine walks in and I become impatient in my seat. "No!" Finn heard through the wolflink between us and suddenly became curious. He stared at me and back at the girl who just walked in, realizing it was the same girl that I was talking about a few minutes ago.
"What is the problem?" He replied via the wolflink. "Do you actually think she is your mate? You are surprisingly restless."
We both stopped communicating when we heard the teacher asking her some questions. "Why are you just coming? And what in earth's name happened to your hair?" The teacher herself looked disgusted as did everyone in the class, Finn was not excluded.
"I…I am sorry. There…I." Her words were incoherent but the teacher seemed not to be having any of it.
"Okay. Just go wherever your seat is." I watched as she took a solid five minutes for a distance that would have taken a minute and another two minutes to sit, it broke my heart and it only made me wonder why. Her bones broke as she moved and the noise from it was loud enough to hear from how fragile and small she was.
"Nathan!" Finn called my attention back via the wolflink. "Stop staring at her so much."
"I am not sure about it but as regards the question you asked earlier. No, she is not my mate. There is no confirmation from Adam or from her own Wolf. Besides, she just can't be my mate."
"Why?" Finn looked at the girl as if accessing her and then back at me for an answer.
"Because she is not luna material. She is dirty, disgusting, smelly, to say the least of things wrong with her. How am I supposed to bring that to this pack? I don't know who she is, where she is from and I don't want to know. It's better she is not shown to the pack as my mate than have her disgrace me. Did you not see what I saw?" I was ready to close the conversation but with the looks on his faces, I knew it was going to drag on and I preferred it stayed in the confines of the link before it became something I could not control. My father would even lose it with a promise to sell me off because I was a bastard of a son bringing disgrace to him.
Finn stared at the girl, as if trying to confirm what I was seeing and he shook his head in agreement. How does one even tell the pack that?
