Nathan's eyes locked onto Anna's, his jaw tightening. "Whatever it is, Anna, it could wait," he replied firmly.
Anna's eyes flickered with wonder and a touch of anger. "It's vital, Nathan," she insisted, her tone becoming more urgent.
"I said it is able to wait," Nathan repeated, his voice leaving no room for argument.
I shifted uncomfortably in my seat, uncertain of the dynamics at play. Anna's arrival and Nathan's refusal to depart made my coronary heart pound with anxiety and hobby. Who is she, and why did she have such an immoderate connection with Nathan?
Anna's gaze grew to become icy as she checked me, her expression a combination of interest and hostility. "And who is this?" she asked, her voice dripping with sarcasm.
Nathan's eyes softened as he glanced at me. "This is Jacqueline. She had a run-in with a few wolves. We're watching after her."
