17: Back Home After A Successful Mission.

" This seems a bit too great for my liking." He said, slowly bringing down his hand with his gaze fixed on all the guards lying on the ground, "Your plan... What is it exactly? I've known the security around for more than five years and for no petty reasons should they be so weak."

" Well, they have some problems they're probably dealing with outside the facility." He said slowly walking forward while reaching into his backpack, "Here, it's a healing potion."

With that, he handed her the bag and the potion as he walked towards the boy. His daggers were sheathed and his movements were still as graceful as ever.

They both left the room together while she quickly followed behind them now holding onto his newfound backpack. The facility was large and it didn't seem like any of them knew the way out.

" Just a few more minutes, that's all there is before they arrive." He thought, gritting his teeth slightly.

" All wandering hostages, please remain where you are! We have to rescue you and you have no reason to be afraid! There are traps located on many ends of the facility and it's best you remain where you are until we come to your aid!"

" Wait... They've come this far already?" He thought as he quickly ran forward.

Now I wondered what happened to- Hey! What she said about traps weren't lies!"

He quickly chased after Nexus who continued to run as fast as he could towards an unknown destination. Just as he took a few more steps a person dressed entirely in black suddenly appeared before him.

He instantly bumped into them, bouncing away but was caught by the collar of his shirt before he could fall to the floor.

" Kids these days are all the same." The man snorted as he slowly let go of him.

" Come on now Alex, they're kids for a reason now, aren't they? Plus, we can't take away the fact that they must be really terrified right now." Another spoke as he slowly walked towards, accompanied by the footsteps of those behind him.

Nexus froze for a moment as soon as he heard the familiar voice; it was one he hadn't for years but never did he imagine it would one day strike so much fear into his heart.

He didn't do as much tremble in the slightest with his gaze fixed on the floor.

" This is it, I'm busted."

" Nexus..." Val called out slightly as he heaved a soft sigh, turning towards his younger stepbrother, " You do know how much of a problem it is for me promising to take you back to your mother by myself?"

He didn't say a word and simply nodded his head as he kept his gaze on the floor, his knees on the floor and his hands placed on each of his laps.

" Very well then, you can have everything it is you brought back with you but first... you'll have to answer each and every one of my questions."

Nexus spent the next few minutes making up lies about everything that he had taken but not about the talent books.

His reasons were all plain and clear; though they were despised by most as something only the weak would result to it wasn't an item that had been banned from being used.

The fact that he would resort to them was just a clear depiction that he was desperate and the only reason for his brother's worry.

" Hahahaha, so that's why did it?" Val asked, holding on to his abdomen due to how much he had laughed, "Honestly, you're simply strange in every possible way..."

" But... I can't excuse the fact that your actions were careless. So... I'll cover you in whatever ways I can but she'll surely punish at least that's one thing I can promise."

He nodded his head once again as a smile slowly crept up his face; though he was in a predicament he couldn't help but be thankful to have someone like Val as his brother.

As expected, as soon as he was brought back, he was immediately confined to his room and left to stay there until further notice.

Well, he couldn't blame them for going towards such measures because of him; his disappearance had caused a stir within the clan and the fast arrival of the rescue team was very likely due to him.

In the day and age he now existed in, the rapid advance of technology was simply due to the innovation of magic into the art of creation; a great merging which the world couldn't have hoped to see one day.

However, despite that, human standards couldn't be affected by the rapid growth in technology; the rich and strong were still at the top of the table while the lesser people tried to hold onto whatever was left over for them.

He slowly stood up and approached the window, pushing aside the curtains that hung over it. The stars shone brightly and he couldn't help but admire it.

" I wonder what Lana has been doing ever since I left, 'must have been mad cause I haven't her given any feedback since then... Ehh might as well be the last time I might ever get to see her." He thought as he continued to stare at the sky.

The sky slowly began to turn darker than it already was and it wasn't long before all the stars along with the moon were suddenly nowhere to be seen.

" Just like my short happy days, you never know when everything will be enveloped by darkness and you'll be left searching futilely for light." He thought as he slowly slumped back and lay on his back.

It wasn't long before it began to pour down and he slept off a few minutes later.

The next day, just as he was done with his daily early morning objectives, the precedented call for his presence was made, and it was by his mother.

" Lord Nexus, your mother seeks your presence." A calm female voice came from the door.

" Your voice has been heard, I'll be there shortly." He said, slowly walking towards the door.

It wasn't long before he arrived at the same location where he had been taken when she asked for him the last time.

For a moment he stopped just a few meters away from the building due to a sight he couldn't have mistaken; the long flowing white hairs of two people, clearly female and one taller than the other.

Those two were clearly his mother and younger sister, but why wouldn't she be in the room waiting for him to come?

Ignoring for a moment he continued forward and just as he stepped in, the sight left him dumbfounded; before him, all servants belonging to his mother were on their knees with their heads held low including the maid who just walked in with him.

The room was filled with tension and even he could sense the tremendous amount of mystic energy flowing around; the sheer presence of some entity in the room was sending shivers down everyone's spines and it clearly wasn't his mother's.
