Zach tapped briefly before turning the doorknob, which opened the door. Zach proceeded farther into the space, and Patrick remained at the doorpost, surveying the place with a quick glance.

He looked over and saw a man seated on an armchair at the far end of the space. He placed a book on his thigh, and on the glass table beside him was a glass cup with a red lid partially filled with water.

Zachary said, "Daddy, good morning." to his father.

Is that Aaron? Patrick stared, perplexed.

From his seat, he could hardly be seen. He appeared weak and aged. It was difficult to accept the idea that he was the man he saw on the news daily. He appeared to be a different version of himself.

The father, seated in the chair, raised his head and looked at his kid. Upon seeing him, a tiny smile appeared on his face.
