Chapter 6

  With the Halloween party coming up at our school the girls and I have been up and about. While they know what they're going as I have no idea. But today, for some reason today the universe decided to do me bad.

"Hey Kyra" Jackson said from behind me.

"Oh, hey"

"How are you?"

"I'm okay" I smiled. "The Halloween party's coming up"

"Yeah"

"Going with Ashley aren't you?"

"Well no, Ashley's not gonna come"

"Why not?"

"She's going on this family vacation so she's not gonna be there at the party"

"So you're not going either?"

"Oh I am"

"You're going on your own?"

"No, I mean, I never expected this girl to actually say yes but she did"

"Who is she?"

"Taylor" he said and I felt like my world stopped. He asked Taylor, Talia's assistant head cheerleader.

"She agreed?" I asked trying to calm down.

"Yeah"

"Nice"

"Do you have a date?" He asked me. I didn't but I still answered yes.

"Uhmm yeah, course I do"

"Really, who is it?"

"Uhm he...doesn't go to this school"

"Then who is it? What's his name?"

"His name?...Verin...his name's Verin"

"Verin? That's a guy's name?"

"Yeah, and he agreed to be my date"

"Nice, well I'll probably talk to you later" I nodded as I watched him walk away and turn the corner before running out of school and getting into a cab that'll take me straight to the Bakehouse. When I got there I rushed into the kitchen where I knew I'd find Verin and I did.

"Hey!" I said.

"Kyra, hey, what are you doing here?"

"Verin, I need your help! I need to ask you for a favor"

"Uhh, sure what is it?"

"So listen, our Halloween party is coming up at my school and I didn't have a date cause I was waiting for this guy to ask me to be his date but then today, just now, we had a short conversation and he randomly told me he already had a date and then asked me if I had one and even knowing I didn't I still said yes I did and when he asked his name I told him the first name that came into my head which was Verin and that's you and now I need you to be my date to the Halloween party because I don't wanna embarrass myself in front of this guy" I said only stopping a few times for breath. Verin looked shocked before smiling sweetly.

"You like this guy?" He asked.

"Yes" I admitted.

"Then I'll go"

"You will! Really?"

"Yes"

"Ohh thank you thank you thank you thank you, Verin, thank you, you're the best" I said throwing my arms around him in a hug and he chuckled while hugging me back.

"It's fine"

"Now I have to get back to school before anyone notices I'm gone, bye"

"Bye." I hurriedly left the Bakehouse and took a cab back to school then met up with my friends in the cafeteria.

"Are you serious?"

"Yeah"

"He didn't ask you, he asked Taylor?"

"Yup"

"And she said yes?"

"I'm just as shocked"

"I can't believe this, we were basically waiting for him to ask you and he didn't even"

"I mean honestly"

"We have to make him pay" Alex said.

"How?" I asked.

"We have to find you a date"

"Oh I already have a date"

"What? Who?"

"The Verin guy" I said in an isn't-it-obvious tone.

"Wait, he's real?" They said simultaneously.

"Of course he's real what did you guys think before?"

"We thought you just said some random name out of nowhere" Skylar said.

"Well no, I actually have a friend named Verin and after the whole thing with Jackson I asked him to be my date and he agreed."

"He goes to this school?"

"No of course not"

"So he goes to a different school?"

"He's in college" they all looked at each other with wide eyes and a cheeky smile too.

"He's a college kid?" Alex asked.

"Yeah" I answered not understanding their reaction.

"How'd you meet him?"

"We're childhood best friends" I told them and they smiled and said "Awww" at the same time.

"The Halloween party's this Wednesday, why don't we go shopping together for outfits tomorrow" Skylar suggested.

"Sure" Talia answered.

"Yeah you should invite Verin too"

"Alright"

  I got to the Bakehouse and went to the kitchen but Verin wasn't there, I waited for him to come but just when I was about to leave he walked in.

"Where have you been?"

"Kyra, sorry, I didn't know you were gonna be here, I had to go home to give my sister some things"

"Oh, alright"

"So what's up? Nice you came here"

"We're leaving right now"

"What"

"We have to go to the mall, for shopping"

"Shopping?"

"For our costumes"

"I still have work I'm doing"

"Verin please, I'm the one telling you to leave this and come with me, please"

"Kyra I would love to but I'm very busy"

"Verin, you know how important this is to me, I promise if you come with me right now I'll give you two thousand dollars and pay for your outfits along with it"

"No"

"Verin please"

"I believe I can pay for my outfits myself and I don't need the money"

"You don't have to need it and I know you do in fact need it but please I really need us to look perfect"

"Kyra I–"

"Verin please" I held his hands in mine and he sighed.

"Alright, fine"

"Great come on let's go!" I took off his apron and hung it on the apron hooks before dragging him out into the car.

"I have to go back to my place to change"

"That's fine then." I told the driver to take us to his place and we waited for him to change and come back before we left for the mall where the girls were already waiting for us.

"Finally" Alex rolled her eyes when she saw me but Skylar and Talia looked frozen in their place and so did Alex when she looked in our direction.

"You guys?"

"Oh sorry" Talia snapped out of her daze.

"Anyways, you guys this is my friend Verin and Verin these are my girls Alex, Talia and Skylar" I introduced pointing at each of them individually.

"Nice to meet you?" They all said simultaneously and chuckled. Talia then called me into a corner and Alex and Skylar followed.

"Kyra" Alex called.

"Yes" I answered.

"Why did Jackson show us a picture of your friend Verin?" Talia asked and I was confused.

"What?"

"He showed us a picture of this exact guy and asked us if you were dating him"

"What did you guys say?"

"Of course we said no and that we don't even know who the guy is" Skylar said.

"Or are you actually dating him?" Talia asked.

"No I am not"

"Then why does he think you're dating him?" Alex asked and that's when it dawned on me. The picture Ashley showed Jackson was probably a picture of Verin. I quickly explained to the girls why Jackson showed them that picture and then we went back to meet Verin.

"Sorry about that" Alex apologized.

"It's okay" Verin said.

"So, what are you going as Kyra?" Skylar asked.

"I don't kn–"

"I have the perfect idea" Alex spoke up.

"So, you know how we want Jackson to pay for not asking Kyra right?" Talia said.

"Yeah...?" Skylar said.

"We wanted her to go dressed as something jaw dropping that Jackson would regret not asking her" Alex said.

"Then...any ideas?"

"Mhmm"

"Let's hear it"

"An angel devil"

"That's perfect" Skylar cheered, I smiled at the thought. I'd be going as an angel devil with horns and wings and a black dress.

"Let's go searching." I sat back as Alex Talia and Skylar went looking for an angel devil set but I knew they wouldn't find anything good so I called the store attendant.

"How may I help you?"

"I'm looking for an angel devil set"

"Oh, miss that's an exclusive set"

"Let me see it." She walked away and I called the girls back then they grabbed the dress from the store attendant and handed it to me then I walked into the dressing room and started changing.

It was a black velvet made bouffant dress, with sweetheart neckline and a basque waistline. The chiffon used on the sleeve was perfectly comfortable. The dress was entirely made of black velvet material and diamond stones. It fit me perfectly as if it was made for me and it hugged in all the right places.

I smiled at my reflection and walked out of the changing room when the girls faced at me their jaws dropped and they all shrieked at the same time.

"You look amazing" Alex said.

"We're definitely getting this" Talia said. After a whole lot of compliments and cheering I went back into the dressing room and changed out of the dress before handing it to the attendant to package it. I bought black heel boots with it and black gloves too.

  When we got to where we were supposed to meet up with Verin he was already there.

"Hey, what did you buy?"

"The best thing they had, that's what you said I should buy" he said.

"I thought you wouldn't" I said with a smile.

"You gave me no choice." We stayed for a while and hung out a bit and Verin and the girls got along well. The girls did like him, they said he was hot enough to make Jackson jealous but I know that's not the only reason they did. Verin was practically the best and most understanding person in the world, he made the best jokes and had the best and dumbest things to say.

  When I got home dad was on a phone call, Elsa was with her boyfriend and my tutor Andrew, mum was with a friend and Cyra —my twin sister— was nowhere to be seen. I went up to my room took a shower and slept off immediately.
